upgrading to a Kritter tank. I need some thoughts and resources.

Hi guys, I'm up for an upgrade just one more gallon. hahaha. Wait! Why one more gallon? I have a 13g that used to be a quarantine tank, but it's been down a year so far and I want to switch tank from my 12g JBJ Nanocube to a 13g Kritter. I don't want to put this tank to a waste and besides, I got a great deal with this tank.

First I need more resources and time to decide what I want to use for it since all my old pump, skimmer have gone bad, I want something better. Here what I want to run,

Halide single or double end
12inches 36watt coralife mini fixture, GOT THAT!
Protein Skimmer
power head, strong
CPR intank refugium.
Heater, GOt That!

What going on now? Well can anyone give me some pointers about what I should use for my tank. I want to know what halide I can run with the 36watt 50/50, what skimmer whould you recommended( I were thinking of AquaC Remora or Tunze 9002 Nano), and What current powerhead I can support SPS, softies, LPS, small fishes about 2-3inches?

Tank sizes, 14"5/8x14"5/8x13"inches...

As for my sand, they are dead, what should I do with it? rinse in water well and add saltwater in and skimmer the water and mix the sand from time to time until it's clear and the chemistry is established before adding stock? I don't want to waste it, even though there aren't nothing in it. I just don't want to waste things you know what I mean?

It may be difficult running a halide and that PC fixture over the the tank at the same time. I would recommend just using a 150w HQI. I only recommend this, because I have one over my 15g, and it is perfect. You would just need to keep a fan mounted to prevent over heating. Maybe even hook the fan up to a Ranco temperature controller, to make it automated.
Is there a sump on this tank?
I would get the external refugium ... you don't have much room as it is a 13g.
Powerheads ... I am thinking a Hydor K1, and a Kydor K2 -but that is just me.
The Tunze 9002 is a good skimmer, if you don't mind it take up a little space in your tank.

A_Lee, I would like to say thank you for your help first.
Yes, you are right, I should just run 150w hqi itself, it would be difficult too. Do you know any fixture that comes with moonlight?
Ranco Temp. Contr. can be connected to fans and it will automatically adjust the temp. I want itself? Sounds like a great product.
I'm not running any sump, I don't even know how to set up and external refugium because I'm not familiar with overflow box and how water return back. I do want too, though. I was think of having a AqauC remora or Tunze nano, but since you said space are limit , even my room is limited.
Hydor K1 sounds great to use.

I love the current USA Sunpods. I have two of them now, and I am very happy with them. I use the fixture as a stand alone lighting source for the tanks that they are on, and what's great is that they also have moon lights (both white and blue) on independent switches. The 20" fixtures come with 12 moonlight LEDs. As a friend once told me when I was setting up my tank: You're investing so much into the tank that you don't want to lose everything beacuse of a heat spike you could have prevented. A fan wired up to a single stage ranco temperature controller (or something similar) goes a long ways, trust me.

Anthony, Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate very much for your time to give me pointers. I did look into SunPod and I heard great news about them. I might will since it's extremely easy to use. How much does those replacement bulb running in price, well I don't care much about the price, but I'm curious. Ranco temp. Controller, I had look into there site and yea, it seem easy to use so I'll see. What kind of fan would you recommend me?

Mmm, the price of replacement bulbs will vary depending on what brand and spectrum bulb you're going to purchase. The Sunpod's come with a Current USA 14k bulb, which has a nice color, but I've also heard you get slow growth from them; probably due to poor PAR ratings. I use a Phoenix 14k on the Sunpod over my reef tank, and I really like it as a stand alone bulb. Some attest to too much blue, but I think it perfect -especially since I have no actinic supplementation.
You can probably just use any fan ... a 6"-10" fan should be more than enough; I have a 6" fan on my 15H. May be handy to order a fan that has a clamp/clip built onto it to make for easy mounting. I'd say the fan on my tank doesn't kick on for 3/4 of the year, but during the summer, on those rare days when the heat really hits SF, it's pretty nice knowing heat is no matter.

What is PAR ratings?

well my nanocube is having heat issue so I use a costco fan and place top of the vent hole and press on timer when I see the reading over 80, running with heater too.. The tank i;m going to set up before never had heat issue because it's located in the cool room.

Photosyentically active radiation.

Depending on the amount of heat you're trying to lower your temperature by, computer fans may cut the cake ... you may need 1-2 though. But I'd rather just clip a 6" fan next to the tank.
