Description of the coral species or common name would be great.
You can win up to three times a year.
If you win three times, you can no longer submit photos for the rest of the year.

Lol been on the look out for something spooky to occur, nothing has happened yet.
 
I’ve just never really had the equipment and overall experience to take and edit these awesome macro type of pictures. I have always liked viewing these threads though!

I feel like the theme is a bit tough, I was contemplating buying a Halloween hermit to take a picture of lmao

I really like the photography contests and wish there were more entries too. I think the themes make it difficult...I like the idea but some of them are just too far fetched. I have no idea what to submit for spooky, for example, and so was just gonna pass. I have a million cool pics sitting around I'd love to submit when the right theme comes along though...as long as the theme is sweet pics of coral and fish. :)
 
As I feared... y'all are kind of over thinking it too though.

Photography is about creativity in my eyes. Not just taking a picture. So some thought and contemplative process is encouraged. That's the purpose of the theme(s). To step slightly out of the box of just clicking the shutter button. It's meant to challenge your standard process.

But I also don't want to lose you all with themes either. If you want generic (and I don't mean that in a derogatory way) monthly photo contests of your best pic, every month, that would make it much easier for me and for you. Maybe I should post a poll for you all to vote? I'm guessing I know the outcome already though. Haaa haa.

Lol maybe best general subject (sps, lps, softies fish, invert etc.) photo and a bonus vote rewarded for meeting the theme (spooky etc), you having the final say if it meets theme challenge of course.

The bonus vote would in a small way Compensate those going above and beyond to meet the Challenge. The general subject being defined yet broad enough that anyone could snap a photo of something.

I respect and appreciate that view - and definitely want to encourage good photography as well as just "cool pics". But remember most of us are not professional photographers - we just unzip when we see something cool and snap a pic. We're just standard unzippers.

What about themes like

"red"

"blue"

"LPS"

"acropora"

"fish"

to start? then maybe as interest grows and people get into we can refine the themes to be more...romantic and inspiring?

I just didn’t see anything spooky happen. I had some ideas but they just… didn't happen in the tank? Also had other ideas but they don’t seem to fit the mold of past entries in the competition

Not that you chose a bad topic. I just don’t have any entries to fit the topic
