got ethical husbandry?

27 gallon tote addition. yay or nay

im looking to add a cheap addition to my 40 breeder to add volume, hold rocks and frags. ive used 27 gallon and 12 gallon totes in the past and even have on right now holding some freshwater plants and fish. my plan is to plumb a 27 gallon tub into my 40 and just run a pump into it from my sump and use a bulkhead and grill for the drain. what are your guys thoughts on this. would u do it or am i crazy.
 
My 210 had a set up like that when I first got. It. A 40 gallon sump tied into a 30 gallons with bulkheads drilled through both tanks and a few extra pumps. (No idea how to hook it up. There maybe older utube videos from years ago that could give you ideas.) I think it was a real old school way things use to be done. I thought it was sketchy as all heck and nothing I had confidence in running in my apartment though I suck at plumbing and couldn't have hooked it back up any way lol.

Maybe some of our guys here that been around a while would have insights.


Yet I would recommend a glass or acrylic tank not a tote. You would get better seals. A tote you would likey have to use glue, silicone, epoxy or the like to help it seal.

i have a tank i could use it just comes down to dimensions. i dont want to add a whole other 40 breeder but some thing like a 29g would be too small of a footprint to hold my current rock scape with room to spare. but i appreciate ur input
 
Sounds like an easy way to add volume/space. It’s not the prettiest or everyone’s cup of tea, but I like the quirky diy stuff. I say do it, but I’m also the guy that just turned a 2.5gal trash can into some kind of filter…maybe call it SOSAT, sits on shelf above tank? lol.

do u have that filter posted? thats pretty sick haha. def not the prettiest for what i wanna do but the tank is in its own room so functionality over aesthetics lol.im just worried about it bowing
