You can get around that by having the new water covered and away from the current tank. When you are ready to transfer, sterilize the new tank, transfer and dispose the old water. When you setup 'new' QT tank quickly with that many fishes, there's no way you can keep the ammonia down. So you...

With your new plan and looks like you only have ich, I would just do the tank transfer method. Much easier than dealing with copper.
