Oh wow. You have 7-8 Nemax 4x/TR115DN with a rubber shrink wrap titanium probe and no issues? I consider myself truly unlucky then .

I buy the Ranco controllers that aren't wired yet and I use the regular probes. Sometimes I cover the probes, but not on all of them. Also, I don't buy NEMA-4 enclosures. Seems a little overkill.

The back and forth with their customer service is a bit painful. Also, a sensor cost 116 USD, without any warranty.

Looking at the Helio heater, which I am currently using as a back up heater, this might be a better value if there is additional safety through another device (in my case the hydros). They have a 5 year warranty except for the controller fuse and magnet.

After all, I bought the aqualogic to not have to deal with these sudden temp issues (unless the heater element breaks down), and 2 years for the probe to last is not better than the competition, while also using old school technology without any offset point and a cumbersome programming.

Will probably switch to Helio now for both backup and main heater controller.

I wouldnt suggest banking on the Helios too much. The one I have tends to drift after 3-4 weeks, hence why I got the Traceable one

Checked today with the reference thermometer this club uses. These are the results. I was hoping it was a #user error but it looks like the temp probe is indeed damaged, and the Hanna thermometer is pretty close to this.

Fun fact - the aqualogic sits in the sump which had a higher temp than the display, i.e., 78.5F, so the gap to the aqualogic is even greater.

I wonder how many of you actually have this model, as the issue might be limited to this model.

Equipment goes bad. Having one bad seed doesn't make every one ever made bad.

You don’t see that rain bird in such an environment

I use a couple of these also to control ventilation fans in my house that are in media type closets. They have been going strong for 10+ years.

I have the TR115SN too and no issues so far. The epoxy in the probe has turned a little brown visually though.
