Hello Reefers,

Looking for some advice on possibly picking up a new tank, Redsea Reefer 170 g2 with reef mat for $500, no return pump or skimmer.

He has Redsea return pump and skimmer (RSK300) and redsea doser and redsea 90 for additional $500

Do you think this a good deal?

For 1k total I would imagine you could find a decent used set up including some coral and fish with a tank break down.

Won't say bad deal. But the skimmer part is a big strech. That equipment you could find for probably less than half that price used. Fyi

I also agree i wouldn't want a redsea tank if it was free based tank failures

If your looking for new alot of other nice options for that tank size and price point I would also estimate.

What are you planning to keep? I have a 170 gen1 2nd hand and imho won’t run reefmat due to space and isn’t really needed. I just run a small skimmer and made the sump into a frag/fuge area. Return pumps are cheap. lights and powerheads for flow are probably more important.

I’ve recently noticed a sesame seed size spot on the front seam above the waterline. So small tanks can still have seam issues.

do you think the tank and stand is worth it for $350?

Yes, I'm not attempting to sway you one way or the other. I'm probably not the person opinion you want on redsea tanks and pricing. Just their general reputation would have me concerned. Though I won't deny they do look good from a visual stand point.

Would the sump be included in the 350 with stand and tank?

This is used I'm guessing by the price?

If there are pictures available including close ups of the seams I would highly recommend posting them. Some
of the people who have commented on this post already would be able to give you a better answer if they could see how it looks. Condition of the tank seams and such play a great deal in how much something is worth.

You can’t ask this question here about a Red Sea tank because 99% of BAR hates them. Especially @derek_SR, he relieves his stress by throwing them off the back of his truck lol. It’s with good reason tho since a few members here have had seam failures that has caused floods in their home. Plus Red Sea customer support and replacement options are terrible.

However, if you are a gambling man $500 is a good deal for a RS170 G2 with Reefmat 250. I love my Reefmat 1200. It’s a smaller tank so less chances of a seam failure.

As long as the RSK 300 skimmer is the DC model than it should be pretty decent. The AC pump model wasn’t that great.

I’ve never used the Red Sea return pump.
RedLed90 is a decent light but it has issues with connecting to the app sometimes.

Is the ReefDose two heads or four heads? ReefDose are in high demand.

Ask for a video of the silicone or go there in person and check it out.

I also saw a Red Sea Reefer 200 G2 with similar equipment on FB marketplace for $800 with similar equipment.

Personally I’m a fan of Innovative Marine tanks tho.
