2 parallel RO setup ?

What’s the downside of setting up 2 independent RO system in parallel? Tee the input and drain line. I am pretty sure the input will be fine , but not so sure about drain?

I know this maybe more complicated that it’s worth. I currently have a tankless RO, which is good enough for drinking water but i the RO pump in the system is causing problem due to the long line (back pressure too high?) to my tank. The pump will pulsate . The workaround is to open the RO faucet slightly to reduce pressure. I thought of setting up a non-pump RO just for the tank thus the parallel setup comes in mind.

If one RO is ON, will the drain pressure force waste water into the second RO? Unlikely but just want to get some opinion?

The better option is just to put 2 membranes on one system in parallel or in series. In parallel it will double the waste water. In series will reduce the waste water. Waste water from the first goes into the second membrane.

I’m not understanding the question

Maybe this will help. The highlight is the drain for the 2 system , going to a T .

Is this a concern?

The issue you want to address is your ro booster pump pulsating as in it turns on then off rapidly? Only when it’s feeding your tank, but not when your drinking faucet is open? The long line shouldn’t add much back pressure since it’s such low flow.

You can put a check valve on waste line if you’re afraid of it going to the other membrane. Isn’t the waste line pressure pretty low?

I kept my two separate and have a drinking water reservoir for the one we use in the kitchen and spigot. No booster on that one and no resin, just a pre filter, RO membrane, and double carbon blocks.

Reef system is 7 stage with dual membranes and the booster, only used manually when I open the faucet.

Less risk of rats chewing on lines that would have to travel 100+ feet or any leaks under the house.

I can’t figure why the pump turns on and off only when feeding the tank. No problem with drinking water. The line that feed the tank also have Dual stage DI.

I also assume the waste line pressure is low . Good idea on check valve but I heard they are not reliable.

Still why have 2 systems? Why not just one system? One membrane going to your drinking water. The other going to your RO/DI reservoir.
I have 1 single system now . It’s a tankless RO but the pulsating pump issue when I feed to the tank is annoying me . Can’t figure out the problem.

Maybe the solenoid or asov, pressure switch is acting up? On long runs 3/8 line works much better. Assuming ur pump is installed after the pre filters maybe their is a slight blockage somewhere creating issues..Also what booster pump are you using?

The pump is pre installed . It’s in an enclosed plastic enclosure that’s not trivial how to open the case without breaking something.

It’s a pain now to switch to 3/8 line. I drill through the subfloor from the kitchen to pull the line to my tank. The hole is just big enough for 1/4 line.
