The apex integration already exists, through HACS, and is in fact "read-only"

You could reverse engineer an integration that isn't read-only but kinda bold to call out software you haven't seen.
Is that to me? I was referring to the hydros integration I did was without any API available and isn't dependent on HA.
If you're taking it as in regards to the Apex, I don't have a specific comment on that, but if it's accurate that the apex things have a web UI, then without question it'd be possible to do the writes from automation as well. Worst case you have it use a headless browser to send clicks. More realistic case similar to the hydros reverse engineering one would reverse engineer the calls the browser is making and do it that way.
Likely even easier because it seems the apex has a local ip based UI.
