What are you using as your nitrate dosing?

I use reagent grade Sodium Nitrate off of Amazon and make my own solution. While i don’t have an argument about ammonia being easier to use for photosynthetic critters, I’d be more worried about dosing malfunctions. A ton of sodium nitrate isn’t likely to do as much damage as a ton of ammonia...

How to mount Radion to 8020?

I’ve drilled through one to mount it on an aluminum C-Channel bar, but it’s probably cleaner to buy the hanging kit and use the part that slides into the rail and find the right size screw/tnut.

    MD’s 50 Gallon Low Boy

Every TAP plastics is different from what they have in their scrap bin. If you don’t find it at one, you’ll probably find it at another. ;) I’d recommend you use a step drill bit. It’ll help you from cracking your acrylic when you accidentally use too much pressure. Using a 1/2” step drill bit...

    Nitrate at .2

Careful turning off the fuge light, there was a balance of algae growing in the sump and now that you have completely turned it off, chances are algae will start growing elsewhere. I would have suggested starting my cutting fuge lighting time by a quarter or half first.

    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

Is the cyano showing up at the bottom of rocks in the picture below? Or is that red coralline? If it is cyano, it looks like that is an area that might not get much flow. Could try adding a temporary powerhead if you have a spare and see if that helps.

DBTC: SCOP (Sexy Corals Orange Passion) tenuis

Not much change, but that’s a good sign for me. It survived this summer of trips and dinos. Hoping now that everything is back to normal, things will start growing again.

    DBTC: PC Rainbow

A couple more trips, a nutrient spike from a blackout and the dinos got the better of me for a bit. Frag tank is finally normal again and no more dinos overtaking everything. Normally, I’m on top of these things, but, you know life. So now we’ll have to wait and see if my acro recovery/growing...

ATO pump issues - Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155 Auto Top Off

Sometimes if there are air bubbles in the pump and not enough water, it rattles and fails to get primed correctly. A little shake will get the job done to prime it. Doesn’t happen that often, especially if you never let your ATO container run dry. I have had four of them for 6-7 years. Only one...

Dealing with frags from a tank with nudis

    1. Safest way is to remove all substrate and frag plugs. You can never know where eggs are hiding. But if you want to dip the whole rock, it hard to rinse off all the dip. A small amount shouldn’t matter if you’re using a tea tree oil based dip or KCl, but if you’re using something like...

All Gone!!! - PIF -- assorted stuff - 32 gallon rubbermaid, model 5 pump, tunze ato parts, etc ....

I could use the Tunze ATO if you don’t have an immediate need for it. I had one go bad recently. I’m already in Castro Valley too. :)

Dealing with frags from a tank with nudis

If it’s a frag tank, I’m assuming all montis are removable. If so, then just bite the bullet and dip every three days for 3-4 weeks. If you’re bored, dip everything. It’s painful, but you’ll feel better in the long run.

    MD’s 50 Gallon Low Boy

Detritus is the biggest issue I’ve found with tile directly on bare bottoms. I found it was much easier to suck up detritus when things were on racks because there was always one place where it would build up. Easy clean up with a siphon without having to worry about disturbing or breaking...

    Isn’t that basically what I said? ;)

    Eric's 60ish gallon build.

There’s no exact science honestly. I put acros in right after it cycles. I’ve done it as soon as 4 weeks of starting with dry rock and the tank is cycled. It’s just a matter of how well equipped you are to dealing with what comes. I’d tell most people to wait 6-12 months that don’t have the...
