I would think it might be a hassle to make and install a manifold when a tank is already plumbed and running. Manifolds allow you to power the returns, reactors, fuge, etc, all from one return pump
Randy on reef2reef physically added a controlled amount of that aluminum compound when the leathers had a reaction. The marinepure material probably releases less aluminum than randy added, and I would guess the marine pure releases larger particles, which might not be as harmful
The part I love most about this hobby is the diversity in life that these ecosystems hold. I enjoy watching the “zombie snails” come out of the sand when I feed, or watching a pod colony buzz around inside a tiny cavern, and even the micro brittles waving their arms around. It’s always nice to...
I’ve definitely had trochus babies before, the biggest one I saw was maybe half a dime size. I’m pretty sure I’ve had nassarius babies as well, they had a cone shaped shell, but I never found one bigger than maybe 2mm
I’m not sure if mine eats pods, or maybe eats some food when I leave the room, because I literally didn’t see him for 2 months and assumed he was dead, but then I saw him last week. I’ve had him for about a year and a half or so
Stability is the most important aspect for SPS. People say to wait at least 6 months before getting sps, so that the tank is stable nutrient wise. You shouldn’t have nutrient spikes at that point. That’s very important, but I think keeping alk, PH, Cal, and mag stable is the most important. If...
I’ve always thought corals could detect other corals that were close, and at that point they would release toxins, thus my reasoning for space with leathers. Maybe leathers can “smell” other corals in the tank, so distance doesn’t matter?
Are you trying to eradicate the starfish population, or enjoy the harlequin shrimp(not a crab) for the long term? If trying to eradicate, yank out the starfish. If you want to enjoy the harlequin, leave them in
So from what I’ve read, harlys only eat the tube feet of the starfish, not the whole thing. I’ve always thought “won’t all of the left over mass of starfish cause a nutrient spike”? Very very cool shrimp, however.
I’ve read that mature male clowns can turn into females within 30 days of being alone, but I’m not sure how exact that is. I would go with a smaller one, because once clownfish mature to the next “stage” they don’t go back, so you definitely don’t want 2 females. Immature male<mature male<mature...
