VOTE NOW! Oct '24 - POTM - Spooky Reefing

I respect and appreciate that view - and definitely want to encourage good photography as well as just "cool pics". But remember most of us are not professional photographers - we just unzip when we see something cool and snap a pic. We're just standard unzippers. What about themes like "red"...

VOTE NOW! Oct '24 - POTM - Spooky Reefing

I really like the photography contests and wish there were more entries too. I think the themes make it difficult...I like the idea but some of them are just too far fetched. I have no idea what to submit for spooky, for example, and so was just gonna pass. I have a million cool pics sitting...

Thoughts on cleaning up DBTC threads a bit?

This did crack me up: Why post your interest if the thread is over 2 years old and instead just let it die? You're partly creating the problem yourself. I do agree with you generally speaking, I think DBTC could use some love.

    Knock off / Clone MP10- MP-40

Yeah for me it's mainly when making a standing wave. You want as much contrast between the max pulse and the min pulse to get a really good wave going. When I had Tunze pumps and had them set to zero, they would occasionally lock up and were all herky jerky turning all the way off then on with...

Greater pulse range without going to zero (which is clunky and you run the risk of the pump locking up). That's why I like 1%

PIF: Glass panels from Reefer 425XL

I’ll send you the video of my 5 year old absolutely screeching with delight as she pushes it off the back of my truck and you’ll change your tune! I’ll send the video to the swine at Red Sea too. :D

PIF: Glass panels from Reefer 425XL

I will actually take them to throw in the dump with my kid if nobody else does - seriously. You gonna be at the swap?

    A few frags available

I'll take #2 - you can give it to Will if you aren't gonna be at the swap.

More free stuff - claim at swap

I've never used it - it's not safe for humans, it's milky, and KCl is cheaper, safter, clear, and you don't have to rinse it. So I just haven't bothered with the Bayer.

    Derek's 225g - Magnifica / SPS Reef

Lots of big changes this week. Got the frag tank installed and electronics moved over. Haven't hung the light but it's plumbed, filled, and flowing. I will add a magnetic black front cabinet cover to match the DT when it arrives: Also ran a line from the garage for kalk. I'm mixing up 32g...

    Ecoflow battery w/ Apex EB832

That’s actually not that bad, minus the AC unit. We have a smallish dual fuel generator (like you can push it, but not lift it) and it runs my tank and the entire house minus AC. Edit - our dryer and water heater are gas.

    Thoughts on ceramic media?

This is a good point, also rocks and rubble will grow sponge - which IMO is part of having a successful tank. Who needs to clean the sump anyway?

    BioAdvanced (Bayer) coral dip questions

I know people do use that. I don't need that much, so I buy this here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T1LZ4D2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It may not really matter, but seems like a product designed for human consumption has a better chance of being more pure. It still...

Why not just use rocks and sand? or like a cup of Reborn media?

    BioAdvanced (Bayer) coral dip questions

This is why I don't like Bayer too. Seeing what comes off is critical, especially if you are battling something specific. KCl is so great - cheap, super safe (for humans and your coral both), and nice and clear. You don't even need to rinse it off! Dip manufacturers hate it.
