Help is needed moving a tank

I have moved bigger tanks by myself - you don’t need 3 guys! You will be just fine with one other person. I’m a bit far but can help this weekend if you don’t get any takers.

    65 gallon tank

+1 my nitrates are higher than yours right now and my alk swings are bigger and my euphyllia are big and happy and growing, though I’ve only got a couple. Just because those are the only two things you’re testing doesn’t mean they’re the problem. :) If you are doing regular water changes I...

Tom's upcoming Waterbox Marine 90.3 Mixed reef

I agree with Alex for once, that phosphate is getting into territory even I would find uncomfortable. But re: the PH/CO2 - wouldn't any biological processes (like respiring bacteria) that continue in sample elevate both of those and cause them to always read high on ICP? The same reason...

Need Some Drain & Sump Wisdom

It's not technically an emergency drain - if your main drain clogs, your overflow box is going to...overflow (unless your 2nd drain is larger than your main drain - which is why @Coral reefer suggests using the big drain as the 2nd drain). A true emergency drain is a 3rd drain.

Need Some Drain & Sump Wisdom

I would extend REALLY HARD to basically impossible - even if you ARE able to get it absolutely spot on, flow through the pump and/or pipes will slowly change over time, so it's inevitable that it will fall out of balance. The reality is the water level with always either be slowly falling or...

Think I got some monti eating nudibranchs!

Why wouldn’t you share information that would further our collective knowledge of how to be successful in a difficult hobby? AND potentially save the lives of some challenging fish that die in captivity in huge numbers?

    Nov '24 POTM Theme Poll

A really nice picture of a clown fish should (SHOULD) get more votes than a shitty picture of an Achilles tang. It’s a photo contest, not who has the coolest fish contest!

    Small Pump Recommendation

I would definitely be skeptical of anything stainless steel, most will rust in SW - especially what is likely cheaper steel in a cheaper pump.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

I don't need the PAR, the Reefis are running at a mere 65W. It's all about the spread. If you have ever seen a tank lit with T5s - there's a dramatic difference in the blanket of light, even compared to a ton of LED fixtures. I'm trying to replicate that since T5s have long been considered the...

    65 gallon tank

Agree with @richiev and @dangalang that is about the minimum amount of flow I would give - too much flow definitely not the problem.

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

120 would be more spread, 60 would be less (narrower).

    65 gallon tank

It’s not nothing, it matters. But so does the wave pattern, the placement of other pumps, their strength and pattern, the return flow, and not least of all the shape of the corals and rock work and how the water returns to the wave makers. All of these are major factors. In my tank, it’s very...

    65 gallon tank

None of this means anything to anyone - only way to really interpret flow is by looking at it. Flow changes dramatically based on a million factors besides just the percentage the pump is running. Share a video if you are looking for feedback on flow, but sounds like it’s probably not the...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

More spread of course. This has become the single most challenging thing with lots of SPS growing in.

How is everything adjusting to the new light? I have ordered two more of the 6ft Helix lights (Reef Crest this time). I am considering switching to these things full time and basically imitating an 8 bulb T5 system. I’m going to see how they look aesthetically with a 2:2 ratio of the...

    65 gallon tank

If you really think water chemistry is the issue, I think escalating water changes is a good idea. Agree with the guys above. Is it possible they are getting TOO much flow? I only have a few hammers in my tank but they are only happy in pretty low flow, and the amount of flow pretty much...
