    Quiet Skimmer?

I've used a Nyos 160 and it was awesome. I've also heard good things about the RO Regal skimmer with the Varios pumps.

    Bfirecat's Impromptu 14g Peninsula

Loving the Icecap K1 nano skimmer. After adding it on, nutrients seem to be more stable. It is also skimming well. Alkalinity usage has doubled as well. Went from 3ml of AFR a day to 6ml, which I assume is the co2 scrubber working. Bad news, found some flatworms over a couple of the mushrooms...

Buying Quarantined fish from Bay bridge

They used to only sell quarantined but changed their business model. They sell non-quarantined fish now and I wonder if there's cross contamination happening between the two.

Who has the largest collection of chalice corals private or retail?

    That’s a nice collection! And I’ll take the blame @Coral reefer :)

Buying Quarantined fish from Bay bridge

Interesting. I wonder if QC went down since they moved over to the new building.

Buying Quarantined fish from Bay bridge

Good luck! I've gotten quarantined fish from Bay Bridge Aquariums and they were all healthy and eating well. I'd say its worth the extra cost, especially after two painful experiences with velvet.

    Bfirecat's Impromptu 14g Peninsula

Yeah, the nano stream was also noisy. I've heard mixed reviews about the noise. Its supposed to be quieter after a couple of weeks but I also didn't like the flow pattern either. I modified the K1 skimmer silencer to add in a Co2 scrubber. PH was always an issue at my house since we have a few...

    Bfirecat's Impromptu 14g Peninsula

Tank is progressing along. More diatoms and seeing some hair algae/bryopsis growth. I switched out the Aqua Gadget Nano Stream to a VCA RFG nozzle. I like the RFG nozzle A LOT more. Alk: 9 Nirtrate: 6 Phosphate: .21 Doing water changes every two days now. Tank is getting full... I can't help...

Who has the largest collection of chalice corals private or retail?

I wonder if chalices would grow faster that way.... more surface area to grow instead of just the outside

    Can’t win

The 0 nitrate would do it. Phosphate is a bit high, but probably wouldn’t cause cyano.

    Bfirecat's Impromptu 14g Peninsula

Fun times today! We added: Adaptive Reef Controller cabinet Apex Classic GHL doser Icecap K1 nano skimmer (It is insanely noise, I think I got a defective pump. I opened a ticket with Coralvue) I had to remove the Maxspect bio bricks on the second chamber to fit the skimmer. I’ll look for...

    What’s going on at BRS?

Bertram usually adds value by streamlining processing, marketing and new hires. Perhaps they are trying to optimize processes or maybe add a few more locations over the US. (This is just an assumption, I'm a sys admin :) )

Hey George, I actually have a Nero 3 I'm not using. You can borrow it to test it out if you want. PM me.

    What’s going on at BRS?

I used to work at Bertram, I can ask a couple of my buddies there to see what they're planning.

    Calcium Depletion

Clams and sticks that are growing well suck up alk and calcium like crazy. If alk and calcium levels are acting funny, the first thing I would check is magnesium levels.

    Can’t win

It will go away if you maintain good husbandry, but not if you ignore the issue.

    Can’t win

I'd recommend against chemi-clean and go with treating the root cause. This might solve it for the next couple of weeks but it will eventually return if you don't fix the main issues. I have had first hand experience with cyano and chemi-clean. Please focus on getting good test kits and good...

    Can’t win

Looks like a green cyano bloom. What are your nutrients running at? I think most people: Increase flow Do more water changes Siphon out as much as they can during water changes Add activated carbon Add GFO (if phosphates are a problem). Make your own RO/DI water and test it often. Add a...
