    Alkatronics experience

It doesn't need much once setup. About ever 8 weeks it asks to calibrate. Change tubing yearly or so if you are doing 2x day testing. New pH probe 1-2 years.

    Alkatronics experience

When I was using it I would use a 1L graduated cylinder. 200 ml of solution 800 rodi. I also weighed it a few times. I found from bottle to bottle there was some difference and just mixed it. Ran tests for a few days then tested with hanna and made correction. I didn't think the absolute value...

    Alkatronics experience

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/diy-alkatronic-reagent.639360/post-6714329 That thread on r2r has some info on diy reagents. I used to use some stuff off Amazon but it weren't to the same price as coralvue. So I have mostly used muriatic acid for the last couple years. A lifetime supply is...

Hobby ICP study - Evaluating the Repeatability and Differences between ICP Tests

Thanks for doing this experiment. I kind of run the moonshiners but mix my own elements and do a lot of water changes to remove detritus. I have used the Triton and oceamo (both icp and icp/ms). For the most part the corrections seem within range. In that I might do Triton one quarter, make...

    Alkatronics experience

Yes I have 2 quarantines and the main system is a couple of aquariums with lots of automation. My hope was to be able to go a couple weeks without monitoring occasionally.

    Alkatronics experience

I have fully bought into the hydros. And for the most part like it. 3 x8 power strips 3 x4s 2 x2s X10 + IV Wave LE Many wifi strips. The wifi strips were pretty unreliable but that's due to living in a condo with 100 other networks around. The X10 I have worked with coralvue and their forum...

    Calcium Reactor Media As Substrate

I really liked using it for big triggers. Gives them sometime to do. Move all the substrate to one side then move it to the other.

    Alkatronics experience

Yeah at $650 it's worth a shot. I see most people have better luck with the alkatronic than I did. I probably would have fixed mine but my place is really small and the unit makes to much noise.

You can see the ic on the upper left fried. If you are into fixing electronics and want to try the alkatronic you could have mine broken unit.

    Alkatronics experience

I have an alkatronic and mastertronic with hydros x10 and IV. The alkatronic worked for a bit over a year. Then one of the chips on the main board fried. I may fix it some day. The board is like $500. I did buy the ic off Ali for less than $1 but turned out to be the wrong one. Anyway the...

    Ozone reactor (DIY)

It does seem they use bio-bale, balls, k2,etc. I would avoid using sponge just seems like something looser would avoid detritus build up.

    Ozone reactor (DIY)

Following. Are you going to use the bio-bale? I was thinking it probably doesn't matter much as the mixing mostly happens at the point of aspiration.

PE Mysis - Not their favorite food? - What does everyone feed? (Updated)

My fish are really picky in cycles. They will eat about anything but not if it is fed continuously. They have eaten every brand of nori from lsf, Asian markets, brs. But they have decided they are not eating every brand on some days. Same with flakes pellets and frozen. Now I have 10-20 brands...

    Preferred skimmer for large tank?

I vote the reef octo as well. For 200+ I would go with any of the units with the VarioS 6 pump. Personally I would go with one of the units that is in sump but the pump is outside the body, like the elite 220 int, or Regal 300 int. Way easier to clean the pump if you have the sump space. Get the...

    Kalkwasser Method - Chris Meckley

Wasn't he hitting the YouTube circuit a couple years ago promoting potassium hydroxide to elevate pH?

Using shelf brackets as reef light mounts?

Thanks Yes. $40 40 breeders for the win. It's was a really nice setup but my tangs out grew it.

Using shelf brackets as reef light mounts?

I did that white shelving from home Depot on my last setup. It's like the modular stuff. There's a backing strip then down legs, the angle shelf supports and the wire shelf. It was the widest they sell I think 20 in. Gave a lot of flexibility for hanging different stuff. I hung eggcrate from the...

    Sandbed in refugium?

Thanks. I see the bill 655 banned the entire genus this summer. My view is caulerpa is cool if that's what you are growing in like a sand flat display. Where legal. But a pain in a reef, as well as ulva. They will escape and grow everywhere you don't want it, and the big tangs can't get it...
