@Joseph Lee Captain Jerks are palythoas. Hence, paly toxin. When handling palys, always wear gloves, googles and masks ideally... OR, wear gloves and work under water to prevent aerosol droplets. Open wounds on hands are also prime for getting affected with paly toxins.

Your nutrients were likely reading zero during algae heydays due to the nutrients being absorbed by the algae (same idea why you run chaeto to outcompete nuisance algae and do nutrient export)... and when the algae dies off, nutrient they held goes back into water... plus nothing is taking up...

Not yet but need too! I was working on trying to tank spawn scolies too before my crash and lost them all... need to restart at some point.

I run jebaos and reef octopus varios. I've found jebaos to be pretty quiet and reliable though YMMV as others have had mixed experiences. I tried vortechs and they were was too loud for me... and too complicated and inconsistent with performance

If it makes you feel a bit better... i was working from home and watching my tank all day... i noticed the cloudiness, assumed it was just a minor bacterial bloom, and kept on working... wasn't until it got really cloudy that I had a chance to check. And realized the problem. I run an apex...

May be specific to my tanks but when I added Dr. Tim's Eco balance which is similar, i wound up with brown slime (ciliates) covering a lot of my corals and experienced huge die-offs. Happened in at least 2 tanks. Sometime later on, I gave it another shot, and same thing... so for me, at least...

Big no for me... tried adding bacteria supplement in past (Dr. Tim's) and all proved bad mojo for my tanks.
