For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

With respect to some people having different Dissolver oxygen levels, I wonder if having fish in the aquarium makes a difference as obviously fish will consume the oxygen. So would people who say that raised ph doesn’t do anything for them maybe have no fish to to lower the do? Do fish “exhale”...

Help move tank - Redwood City - Friday 6pm ish - no stairs !

Happy to help! It went very smoothly! Many hands made the task easier and the BAR suction cups and the dolly made it a snap! That tank is gorgeous and I can't wait to see your tank journal on it! V

Where to find 1/4” x 1/4” male NPT fitting locally

Orchard Supply Hardware (RIP!) had a great selection. Some of them resurrected as "Outdoor Supply Hardware" and may also have a good selection.

A lot of talk about pH and coral growth lately, here is an interesting study...

Before the dark days of Wifebane, I had a nice 58g tank and ran a CA Rx and my DIY Kalk mixer for ato. Things grew like crazy in it. I had coralline algae growing out in shelves off the walls and an SPS so large that I donated it to Steinhart's because it was too big for the tank! I gave away...

Help move tank - Redwood City - Friday 6pm ish - no stairs !

I'll be there! I would recommend that 1) You chase away that scary witch! 2) Halfway between the garage and door, you put some plywood or something on the ground, because even that short walk will probably have one of us saying "Hang on, hang on! Put it down for a second!" and if the only place...

A lot of talk about pH and coral growth lately, here is an interesting study...

I use kalk was my top off. I mean, my ATO water pumps into a DIY kalk mixer, then into the tank. However, I've heard of folks simply dosing kalk as a one-part supplement (which it is), but through a doser sort of match evaporation rate so that it is dripped at a known quantity for control...

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

Seems to me that everything BRS makes is basically just an RO filter cannister filled with various things and just labelled "XXX Reactor", LOL! Still, they are my favorite store due to their BRS TV youtube channel. V

A lot of talk about pH and coral growth lately, here is an interesting study...

Thanks for sharing that study! At some point I think we are just chasing numbers and honestly ... can we control every thing? What I do know is that when my return pump broke, the lack of oxygen killed off all my beautiful fish, so I'm not going to chase hypoxic conditions, and providing fresh...

Help move tank - Redwood City - Friday 6pm ish - no stairs !

Hey, it better be more than just two guys lifting an empty 200 g tank. I would say 4 minimum. If you have to push it to the weekend to accommodate Rich, I could probably help then too. Empty, a 200g tank is probably 350-400 lbs I'm guessing and it's awkward. V

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

How much media do you have to change, and what would be the cost? Honestly, even if it were cheap, I would forget or get sick of doing that, even if it's every 2 weeks.

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

At first I was worried about drilling a hole in the stucco before I recalled the internet cable that the internet guy just willy nilly drilled into the wall. V

I might be able to help. Mark me down as maybe. It depends on my work load. Will check on this thread on Friday V

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

LOL, I better check the CO2 levels in my house, particularly the space around my own head! V

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

I live on a hill in San Mateo and the street has cars drive by, but it's very low volume. I'd be worried if the cold air (well., it's cold today) would actually cool down the tank and make the heater run for longer. V

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

LOL, my house was built in 1938 and leaks like a sieve! I'll test my pH when my new probe arrives to see if it even is a problem at all. A line to the outside, once the work is done, seems like a freebie if it works. CO2 Scrubber is an ongoing cost. I'll put myself in line for the CO2...

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

Yeah, pH is a logarithmic scale so a pH of 8 is 10 times more alkaline than a pH of 7. A 0.5 increase is a 5 time increase in (whatever, 5 times less hydrogen ions? I forget my chemistry) Also, most people chase 8.2->8.4 pH and usually bump a ceiling of around 8.0 ... so .5 is prbobably all...

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

I'll run a test first before drilling holes, once my pH probe comes and I can hook up my pH meter. I can attach a hose to the skimmer input and just stick the end of it into a nearby open window, though of course having the window open would affect the air in the room. Maybe just tape up some...

For people directing outdoor air to your skimmer ... did you drill a hole in your house?

Hi guys, so I've been reading up about raising pH by providing air with less CO2 in it to the tank. One option is a CO2 scrubber, another option is running a line to get fresh outside air. The simplest solution is of course to open windows, but when it's cold outside (and at night) this is not...

FYI BRS is having a 30% off sale on Maxspect Gyre pumps

Bulk Reef Supply is having a sale today on Maxspect Gyre pumps, for anyone interested. They send me text messages and this was today's. I'm already invested in MP-40s (the pumps, not the submachine gun! LOL) so I'll pass on this, but it might be a good deal for anyone wanting Gyre pumps. V

Can a pH probe stay submerged in the aquarium instead of in a pH probe storage solution?

Thanks. In a tank, how long does the probe actually last before it's just non-functional, even if you recalibrate it. As I understand it, it has a glass bulb filled with something that eventually just wears out or leeches out or something. V
