    Cycle: Nitrates magically going down

Yes ammonia and nitrites have to be zero. Nitrates on the other hand can be present, maybe in the 20- 40 range, but should not last long. Water changes and the macrobacter should keep the nitrates under control unless you over feed. Feed some to the cuc but they don't need a lot. My ammonia...

    Cycle: Nitrates magically going down

I would just continue with the macrobacter7. Don't be in a hurry! The tank will cycle itself. The bacteria needs time to build, and the macrobacter is helping. Your test results should show the ammonia going up for a few days , then going to zero, with a spike in nitrites , then they should go...

What does a healthy reef tank/water smell like?

Interesting question. I hadn't thought about it. So what I just did was to go around and smelled my 3 tanks. No smell at all. At best you would only what maybe some salt smell. I agree with Kensington Reef.

Which corals would you recommend to add movement to a nano reef?

Two open brain corals on the sand would add a lot of color. A torch coral would be very nice for movement. As mentioned earlier those mushrooms will probably cause you some problems. I would isolate them on their own rock at the very least. Another nice coral is a Duncan coral. It has movement...

Everyone doing OK with the heat?

Would like to send some pics, but I don't know how. I don't even have a smart phone. Kind of embarrassing. If the club does a tank tour this summer everyone is invited.

Everyone doing OK with the heat?

Erin, good to see that you got the Kessil's. By the way the blue chalice I bought from you last august is now about twice as big. Three tanks, 6 kessils, 78 deg.

    Mouse's IM Nuvo Fusion 40g

I just purchased innovative-marine mini 38 gal. from Neptune and the tunze 9002 skimmer fits fine(the magnet does have to be removed, but Neptune did it for me. I don't know where you live but if you want I can show you my setup. I'm in Oakland near hwy 13and 24. My 38 gal has the skimmer...

    Diver's Paradise: Take Two!

Looks like you have everything under control. Maybe I was luckily with the pistol shrimp I got. Like I said it is all over the aquarium. You have always done a very job with your aquariums and this one looks like your record should stay intact.

    Oceanic 29 Gallon BioCube Quesiton

Robert at Neptune Aquactics has a nice rimless 38 gal. Glass aquarium. I had the 29gal nano, but it is to small and the lights would basically only support fish. I bought the tank, a tunze skimmer, auto top off, and am using a Kessil led light. With this setup I can do almost anything. Not...

    Diver's Paradise: Take Two!

I just redid my 65 gal tank and thought I was going to have the same problem you did. However after a major disturbance of the sand bed everything survived just fine. I attribute this to my pistol shrimp and high fin goby. The tank has been up and running for about 30 months and all during this...

    Kessil lighting options

You should like the Kessil's. I have three 350 narrows over my 150 gal. aquarium and all the sps seem to be showing good growth including some acros. Robert at Neptune recommends getting the power up to 100 percent for both the white and blue doing it gradually. This will give the most white...

    What salt to use?

If magnesium is an issue try Kent salt mix. Their salt crystal mix has added Ca. And mag. I was using Instant Ocean, but it was lower in Ca. And probably mag. But then again you can always supplement it. Kent is also inexpensive, at least if purchased from Foster and Smith. Free shipping.
