    Apex issue thread

Thanks. I guess the other question is if the Trident/Apex is still only capable of reporting one error at a time - because my calcium was out of range by 10ppm (I would normally ignore that one) it doesn’t show the more important “no test in 24 hours” or “alk out of range” alarms.

Ugh. Took apart the Neptune COR pump, no debris or anything wrong that I could tell, turned it back on - it spun up for a few secs, then immediately turned back off and now won’t come on again.

I just noticed my Neptune COR return is turning on and off repeatedly - like every 5 seconds on, 5 seconds off and water sloshes back down to the sump (the no-back-siphon feature never seemed to work anyway) what could be going on? Now in addition to troubleshooting my Trident I guess I get to...

    Apex issue thread

Looks like I have an older firmware version. I get test A failed once a month too. By the way is it possible to get my Apex to alarm when test A fails or it doesn’t test alk for 24 hours?

    Apex issue thread

This week, my Trident is showing “testing alk” for two days even though it is not doing anything. I tried restarting and unplugging. Does anyone know of a fix? Thanks!

Because things always break on vacation

I’m so sorry. It’s important to have someone check on the tank in person when you’re gone because equipment made for the reef hobby is SO failure-prone.

Fritz lot #52162.3 bought at Neptune Aquatics - like the box I bought at Neptune before it, is deficient in calcium. Fritz has not replied to my email inquiry on this for over a week. Measured by Red Sea test kit & Trident @Sal 34ppt: Ca 350ppm Mg 1280ppm Alk 8.2 dKh

    Salt thread

A thread for posting parameters of salt mix lots. Please post lot # and where you purchased the salt, what salinity your mix was at when you measured it, and how you measured each parameter.

    Welcome to the Clown Show

Congrats! It’s amazing you only got one regular looking misbar, all the rest look really cool.

[News Article]: Ocean heat around Florida is ‘unprecedented,’ and scientists are warning of major impacts

“It’s pretty crazy that at this point the best solution we have is to take as much coral out of the ocean as we can,” O’Neal told CNN. “It’s shocking when you think about that.” Yep I guess our best bet is to figure out how to grow corals in reef tanks, on Mars

    Chromis’s 90g Acropora tank

Tank update. I guess the big change is that I removed the green monti colony from the left side because it was overgrown (lots of dead layers accumulated under the new ones). I left some of the undergrowth because it makes a cool bridge structure. I wasn’t able to remove it in one piece like...

Nitrates bottomed out..and massive cyano issue

Yea good point - now that I think about it, I’ve seen purple coralline in (others’) brightly-lit high-nitrate level tanks. There’s just something that tells me PAR might be high if there is a lot more green algae and not much purple, but I could be wrong. Can’t hurt to measure PAR though, and if...

    Michael's 168 build

Oops I meant which is *less* likely to break/leak, if you are looking for deciding factors, or an interesting project. From the sims I’ve seen it seems like the bottom center seam on the long panels gets a lot of stress.

Nitrates bottomed out..and massive cyano issue

I would keep lights on but possibly lower PAR. I don’t see much coraline so maybe PAR is higher than needs be anyway. I’m concerned pH will get really low with all the algae, cyano/bacteria and fish respirating in the dark, causing a new issue? What PAR are you running your lights at?

    Michael's 168 build

@H2OPlayar If you are familiar with CAD you could simulate which one is likely to break/leak?

Multiple firefish / midas blenny in large tank

I had a totally reclusive fire fish that would only come out to eat, until I added another and then its life mission was to destroy the other fire fish. The new one got stressed and disappeared (probably died and then got eaten or was chased out of the tank).

Thinking about setting up NSW holding tank for water changes instead of mixing

So what was in the NSW that isn’t in synthetic salt that might have helped your reef? If you get Fritz or Red Sea salt, it’s gonna be almost guaranteed to have all the trace elements because it was sourced from an ocean (or ancient ocean) - Tropic marin and other synthetic salts could be...

PSA: Tropic Marin Pro on sale at BRS today 20% off

@FullerReef Same happened to me once with a Fritz Salt shipment from Saltwateraquarium.com, they said UPS must have trashed the box and now it was my problem to deal with (different customer service response lol). Looked the same as your shipment:

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Neptune told me my Trident PCB power source was shot when all it needed was a new cable. If you're seeing power issues - intermittent flickering or occasional bad measurements - check if your cable has corrosion or doesn't fit well.
