    210 gallon Dream tank

My recollection is those UV sterilizers are not saltwater safe, though some people use them that way. I'd double check.

    Alk consumption gradually decreasing ..

Not sure if you said before, but what types of frags / corals died off? Are you confident there's not a pest problem in there?

    Copperband Butterfly feeding when away?

This is all very great info. Thanks all. I might pick one up.

    Copperband Butterfly feeding when away?

Bumping an older thread. Has anyone tried an avast plank + freeze dried + CBB? I'm debating one to help with my frag tank's new aiptasia problem.

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

Will you have enough room/clearance on the bottom to add salt easily, particularly without getting it everywhere?

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

It's awesome and hilarious how wonderfully setup this waterless reef tank is :) Ironically one of my favorite states of a tank is when it's just a perfect 5 pieces of glass, unscratched and completely clear.

Are you growing anything out for the next frag swap?

In the interests of unhijacking this thread, @Fish Boss do you have any interest in starting a doc with pest guidelines for the swap? Maybe a thread + an editable Google doc that guidance could be dropped in? Stuff like assume everything you get here is infected with pests, because it likely...

Are you growing anything out for the next frag swap?

I am 100% confident I have gotten MEN from club members. One was at a meetup earlier in the year. One came from a freebie years ago (different tank I ended up tearing down). It's why I quarantine, I get stuff happens and I don't hold it against anyone. Especially since it was free, and unless...

Are you growing anything out for the next frag swap?

I'm in a similar boat. I have so many frags I could give away right now, however having Monti nudis I don't think it's right to do. If anyone's interested though, lmk. I have so many huge semi-colonies of purple cap, green goblin, rainbow encrusting, strawberry encrusting, ... All are very...

Looking for thoughts on substrate/ canopies

+100 on the posts about don't worry about all this, use what you have, it'll be fine. As noted in the tank cost thread, the more and more you let this escalate into "let me get a couple sps", "what if I might keep X so I better buy Y now" thoughts you're exponentially increasing the needs and...

    Light hanging help

I'm using whatever I happened to have on hand, can't say in detail off hand but could track it down if folks are interested. Regarding the strengths, fishing line when catching a fish is subject to sunlight and friction and ... Though the weight is just about weight and not accounting for that...

    Australian Stripey, Microcanthus joycae

I'd take it! I was considering driving to AC to buy one if they had it.

    Alk consumption gradually decreasing ..

Looks great previously. I apologize for not being clearer before, but I'd try some standard 20% water changes on a standard schedule next time. Sucks it is continuing sideways :(, but you're one step closer to debugging since you have a bit more info now. If something extreme happens after a...

    Alk consumption gradually decreasing ..

Your statements on the first parts are aligned with my statement, but the implication you're drawing is different. My statement is: * January 1, you add in new GFO. Your alk consumption is elevated to be `coral + GFO` * February 1, your GFO is fully depleted or removed, your consumption...

    Light hanging help

I hang all my lights with fishing line attached to basic screw in hooks. Invisible, and more than strong enough. Your cables will be more than more than strong enough :)

    Alk consumption gradually decreasing ..

Suggestion as a test: 1. Water change, see if coral gets better. If so, could be the water is missing something, or could be bad juju in the water (add some carbon media) 2. Partial gfo replacement, see if alk usage increases. Careful not to bottom out your phosphates Also, always a good...

    Alk consumption gradually decreasing ..

As a clarification: my mention of GFO wasn't towards GFO as a boogieman causing bad coral growth, but more simply that GFO consumes alkalinity. If you replace your GFO with fresh ones, presumably it'd more quickly suck up alk. After awhile, as it gets bound, it'll consume less to eventually...
