Lime (520-620nm) Lime is a very new LED color from philips. Imagine it as being a white LED without the blue peak. Peak luminous output is from 566-569nm, and the spectral half-width (how much spectrum it covers at 50% luminous output) is ~520-620nm, so it covers a very broad spectrum, meaning...

I tried using on NW for the white light, but for my limited space array it was too 'warm/glaring'. The solution was to add a bit of CW and B to cool down the look. As they say "Whatever works".

How to clean sand bed in an establish tank?

Correct, if you are just starting to clean a SB start off doing a small area at a time. I have never had a need to use Bio-pellets, so I can't comment on their usage personally.

How to clean sand bed in an establish tank?

Algae dusting/film growing on the sides of an aquarium indicates some amount of phosphate is present. Detritus removal will off course also remove a major source of phosphate (decaying matter). I use this technique exclusively to keep PO4 at '0' (Salifert) and typically the tank has undectable...

How to clean sand bed in an establish tank?

This is a topic is where you will get many different opinions since many factors can be at play. From personal experience, the smaller the tank and the higher the bio-load, the more often the detritus will need to be removed (somehow). For my small 12g Nano which is going on 6 years, I use a...

Nano sapiens 12g - Ye Olde Mixed Reef

Took a number of tries, but I finally got a side pic of these tiny 3/16" diameter coral polyps I found recently on my 15+ year old LR. The back story is that the area these polpys came from was covered by Pavona varians and only uncovered when a Ricordia killed off a good portion of the Pavona...

Due to the difficulties of lugging around tanks and equipment, I was thinking of just bringing a Laptop and using that when an example is required. Ralph.

I am free on the 12th and I'd be willing to assist those new to the hobby. For those interested, but without a tank/equipment, how about 'Reef aquarium selection and life support'. I can bring a few frags to give away, too. Ralph.

Nano sapiens 12g - Ye Olde Mixed Reef

Been a while...updates! Due to my auto feeder delivering too many pellets for two weeks, I had nitrates approaching 30 ppm. This tank typically runs '0' nitrates, so I was expecting some trouble. Luckily, the issues were not severe and mostly cyano related (still working on eliminating it...

Looks like you are gong all-out with the LED chips! Hope you find that perfect (for you) lighting setup. What makes the LED lighting so interesting (and challenging) is that we now have a much greater choice of chips from many different manufacturers and the ability to adjust multiple channel...

This is my favorite article on this subject of 'Full Spectrum' LED lighting in the reef tank: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2012/10/aafeature I've been up, down and through this topic for the last year and I still find it fascinating. It's really a challenge to find just the right LED light...
