It is possible there is a leak in the tube, I'll check this week. Soaking the venturi in hot citric acid this morning, we'll see if that helps.

I took apart the skimmer and pump today. Motor shaft is connected to needle wheel; wheel stalls when I put my finger on it and spins when on. I cleaned the needle wheel, it had some small snail shells in the needles. Blowing air through the tube makes the skimmer froth when it is on. I can try...

Weird, because I just got one shipped a couple months ago.

Flushed fresh water through the tube and plastic piece at entrance to skimmer body. Water flushes cleanly through it. When I blow air through the tube, froth is created, but then stops.

Hey Bar, I shut down my Reef Octopus 250ss skimmer and it dried out for a couple months. I then started it back up with a new power supply and controller (because I fried my old one) and the pump spins up great, but no bubbles are created. I bet something important is clogged and needs an RO...

But I (used to) do both hobbies, that is why it is relevant. In any metric that compares this hobby to corporate waste production makes what this hobby produces insignificant.

This is why lots of people skip the mechanical filtration. Laziness prevents lots of people (myself included) from changing a part every 3 days. Plus vacations are a variable where people are away for more than 3 days. The rest of the stuff in the tower I like though. Bioballs or crushed...

Also, mechanical filtration just isn't really needed in a reef tank. The fine particles settle in the bottom of the substrate. The rule breaker here might be a bare bottom tank, but detritus would still mostly accumulate in the sump/filter chamber.

Consider taking mechanical filtration out completely and letting the detritus naturally build up in the overflow chamber. Then every 6+ months you can syphon out the gunk if you want to. I don't, lol
