    Michael's 300 In Vegas

I haven't posted pictures yet...it hasn't even shown up yet...are you the builder? Or is he just sharing with everyone he knows, lol. Working on designing the plumbing now. Was debating schedule 40 vs 80, then some at an lfs here rolled their eyes and said "you know you get what you pay for"...

    Free Blue Discosoma Mushrooms

Lots of people in the group hear the word "teacher" and will all but stock the tank for you. Set up a journal explaining the system and school and watch the magic happen (after joining) Edit, just saw your other thread...just like I said, lol

I always thought if/when I replace my carpet nem, I'd get a red one like this. Love it!

    Michael's 300 In Vegas

I have some of my biome from my big tank that I drove out here, and got some more crushed coral I am "cooking". So the structures will be dry, then I'll likely have the sump and a pile of live rock in the corner. I learned from my last system that the structure changes every year or so anyway...

Working on rock shapes and structures. Thanks to @Coral reefer for the great pieces. Most of them made it mostly. Now time for epoxy sticks and super glue to make it taller and more interesting. I was debating on doing something different for the substrate. One idea was to make a wall out of...

    Trident: No Water Sample

You don't need to take apart any electronics to flush the lines. Take the front cover plate off, unscrew the 4 feet on the bottom, take the cover off. On the back of front, you see the 5 solenoids. Using tweezers, remove the tube (I think I remember it being) at the 11 o'clock position from...

    Big acrylic sump

    Michael's 300 In Vegas

Like my last peninsula, the wall that it is in is structural, so I will have to be okay with a little snorkeling to scape that far wall. I need that wall to be strong to mount my lights to. At least I can get to both sides now, where my last one I could only access two of the sides.

Help me move my 190 please.

I'll just catch a quick flight out to sfo, then back to vegas from sjc to go with the tank ;)

    Michael's 300 In Vegas

The tank grew 2" in width in order to make the plumbing and overflow box work, so the tank is now 72" x 32" wide x 30" tall. That puts us at 299.2 gallons of tank, so just shy of the real 300 tank club. With the sump though we are well over. On the 4 foot stand, the system stand at 6'6" tall...

    Michael's 300 In Vegas

The tank arrived and is now up on the stand. When the drywallers came back to mud over the framing, they used too much mud so the stand and tank wouldn't fit. By less than 1/16" So we ripped the drywall off and are going to trim out the sides. Maybe we get a mantle on the bottom to...

    Beginner reefer seeking advice

Distilled is not guaranteed to be 0 TDS and I wouldn't use it for calibration. It might be fine for top off but you don't know without testing what is in it. You can get RODI from any lfs if you don't have a system yourself yet.

    Beginner reefer seeking advice

Tap water is rarely 1.000, use RO/DI from a known good system for calibration.

Montipora nudi battle including tank rebuild

Dip and let a friend watch them for 6 months, or 2nd tank for 6 months. If you have a second tank, you could likely get them with a few dips over a couple weeks.

Montipora nudi battle including tank rebuild

From what I remember, they will starve out after 2-3 months of no montis in your tank. So I always thought I would just live with it/starve them out over 6 months if they ever found my tank.

Considering moorish idol - requesting input

I remember there being a fish that looks like the MI, but isn't. From google, I got this Some aquarists prefer to keep substitute species that look very similar to the Moorish idol. These substitutes are all butterflyfishes of the genus Heniochus and include the pennant coralfish, H...

    Removing large toadstool leather

I wouldn't mess with the rock personally. I would peel the leather off, then try to peel any remaining coral from the rock, or let them grow into new leathers. Whatever you do, water change and run carbon after.
