question - will a red grow light used for chaeto work or does it have to be blue/full spectrum?
I currently have it in my fuge using a chaeto grow light.
Oh, I never thought of doing this, thanks for the tip! I was just going to throw them in the trash.
also, when you say bleach them...do you mean dipping them in a bleach solution? O.o
Accidentally broke off giant pieces of my montipora. I brought a couple to the swap, but I have a giant piece that was too big to fit in any container.
Located in Redwood City.
The person I bought it from originally told me it was a birdsnest coral (it was also suppose to be blue and pink but thats neither here nor there lol)
It kinda looks similar to this tidal gardens one, but not as bright and my photography skills are not that good lol...
I fragged the main colonies a long time ago and I've been lazy about posting so they've grown into mini colonies. I'd bring these to the next frag swap but I need/want to just clear out the frag rack.
For reference, the frag rack is 6"x2.75". Pest free.
some photos taken with a lens. free for...
ooh I don't, this is something I'll have to look into
I guess the solutions I'm looking to solve currently are first, eradicating any that are remaining in my display where I don't turn over rock work and take rock work out to dip and scrub, that option doesn't work for me as my structures are...
lol I have gone down the rabbit hole that is Polyclad worms. my heart is devastated so I'm on a path of revenge lol
so dipping with ReVive causes a pretty severe defense mechanism it seems, enough that it would fall off a frag for sure. However, it doesn't kill it or if there are eggs on the...
So since I have ReVive on hand, I figured I'd give it a go....
I don't know if its truly dead but it reacts pretty strongly so having it somehow get past the 15 min dip is bewildering.
maybe it hitchhiked on the clam itself or maybe a turbo snail? since those didn't get dipped or quarantined
Thats my plan, I havent disposed of it yet as much as I would love to kill it with fire.
I'll try some of the flatworm meds to see if it works too, but so far the google results aren't promising. the only thing ive read so far is someone (the reef2reef link I posted above) dipped their clam in...
I honestly have no idea. I don't have a quarantine setup but I've dipped all my frags in ReVive and have never seen any flatworms fall off. this thing is ginormous so I feel like theres no way I would have missed it.
All my rock work I picked up as dry rock, from neptune and other reefers. The...
omg thats exactly it! thank you for this! I actually thought the clam ejected itself somehow at first because of the mantle like pattern
@Kensington Reefer do you happen to know what the eggs look like?
Thanks! I introduced a couple turbo snails a few weeks back that didnt survive past 24/48 hours and chalked it up to it just the roll of the dice, but now I know why. I'm so upset, it's my first clam and I was so proud of being able to keep it successfully. I'm kind of a night owl so I always...
Well, I found my answer -
