    Feeding Chat

My usual regimen is: Auto feeder on lowest dose size setting 2x/day spectrum pellets. Every other week a cube of misc frozen plus a teaspoon of flying fish roe daily. During my workweek I don't usually feed unless a specific coral is ailing. Unless I'm out of town. Then it's just the auto feeder.

Ok, now I'm really confused. You recommend a pet club over 6th? Why would I drive out of the city to patronize a store that treats their fish worse, is a chain, and charges more per gallon? I used to live near that store, and granted I haven't been there in over a decade but I'd always drive...

You and me both. I did my research. My decision isn't based on trust. Meet me at 99 fish?

I tried Brawndo. I ran out of burrito coverings. My fish like burritos, they live in the mission! It feels like you want to start a conversation about ethical reefkeeping? Since I started keeping a tank in SF there has been exactly one ethical store that upheld the image reefers like to...

Anywhere to get LRS Reef Frenzy locally other than Diablo Corals?

When you look at these "special recipe" reef feeds, you see the same rehash of ancient (for this hobby) recipes for homemade reef food. Depending on which recipe you start from, the goal of homemade food was to take store bought seafood and blend it fiercely enough that the resulting mush could...

Anywhere to get LRS Reef Frenzy locally other than Diablo Corals?

I've never understood why people buy a coral food because it's been carefully chopped to a fine consistency that corals can feed on. Then strain out the big, less useful chunks and throw away the food. Hmm.

:D I only wish that I'd paid $20 each for my corals. Trust me, I'd be bragging about how little I'd spent if I'd been able to do that. I go there often, especially since it's the only store in SF that sells nsw.

    "New" LFS recommendation.

The manager did mention corporate is pretty inflexible on a lot of things. However, she did "bargain" with me when I wanted a couple hitchhiker corals that weren't on her list. She found a sku near my offer. It's not amazing, but with the recent news that Steve is selling out and or retiring...

    "New" LFS recommendation.

I drive up 16th street a lot because it's on my route home. Often, I stop for groceries at Potrero center. When I do, I swing by petco because I like to stare at fish. The Potrero center petco has always had reasonably healthy saltwater fish. For a long time, it was run by the wife of one of...

Whoa slow down, don't all jump on it at once! To further add to the negatives lost this tank has no center brace, it was cut out. Thought I'd mention that. Looks like I'll be cutting it up for scrap glass.

Mold seems easier to avoid downstairs. That fungia was a nice shade of tan when I bought it. I saw potential.

Thanks Mike and Boun. I appreciate the kind words. I enjoyed having a tank in my bedroom, but can't forget the mold that tried to eat my furniture... Downstairs just makes more sense in this old house.
