    Making my own salt water?

What sort of issues did you have with other salts that led to this decision? Always good to know what to watch out for.

    Making my own salt water?

Looks like I interpreted ofzakaria’s post wrong, no offense intended.

    Making my own salt water?

It was a mildly amusing story in reference to a post above about bringing home 30-40 gallons of water at a time seeming like a lot. No more, no less. While this particular store didn't do a great job in their store, the individual referenced above kept his 210 as an SPS tank that was the envy...

    Making my own salt water?

Back in his college days he played football for an SEC team, he could handle it. The alternative wasn't great either. He was in a small 1 bedroom apartment with his wife, and I still knew him after he left that job. The alternative was storing brute trash cans somewhere, pulling them into...

    Cheap refugium light?

Back before moving to brighter lights I was successful growing chaeto under a clamp light and a CFL for quite a while. LED is probably the cheaper route now, but it doesn't need to be complicated (even if I've made it so on my own tank since then).

That's a nice start, congratulations and welcome.

    Making my own salt water?

I knew a guy who worked at a LFS where one of the perks was free salt water so log as you carried it out yourself. Every 6 months or so he would do a really large water change on his 210. He would drive his truck to work and basically fill the bed with those 5 gallon jugs each time.

The long term short term - 170

More fun with pictures. Today I noticed that I finally have a decent collonista snail population going. They're all about this size, so they have some growing to do.

    API aqua spin

I'm going to start positive and then turn into a skeptic. 1. $12 (referencing the other thread) is a reasonable rate for testing several things. I can see this eliminating some human error as well as saving employee time. Doesn't matter when there is down time, but I've definitely been in...

    Getting snails out of drains.

My current (still telling myself it's temporary) reef has an overflow gap small enough that the bulldozers turbo snails can't get anywhere near the drain. However, I'm in desperate need of some snails and they weren't available so I added a few trochus snails. Of course one crawled down the...

    Cleaning your sump!

Do you my chance mean vermetid snails? I’ve never seen feather dusters as anything other than food for CBBs, and a mild curiosity.

    Heat and more heat

I like that store, so hopefully nobody takes this wrong, but I never cease to be amazed by how businesses don't have contingency plans. I'm not saying add full A/C for the store (I'm assuming they don't have it, and I know what that would cost), but have enough fans that you can put a couple on...

    Heat and more heat

I knew people in Texas who felt that anything over 72° was barbaric. When not working from home I completely turned off the A/C during the day, then turned it back on when I got home. I would have programmed it into the thermostat, but my return time would vary by several hours on any given...

    Cleaning your sump!

I had a similar thing when I moved my last tank, although no high nitrates to go along with it (I had to dose them in that tank). Was definitely surprising. Also pulled out almost a 5 gallon bucket of those little white feather dusters that were growing in it.

Best way to get rid of a single aiptasia?

I've managed to spot treat out aiptasia from tanks, but typically only when I find it on the frag, then check regularly until I find the other two or three I didn't know were there. You have to be *very* diligent and very lucky. If you have one in your overflow box, sump, etc., it will keep...

Peace of Mind with 13KW Whole House Generator Finally Done

I've used a Honda EU2200i and it was by far the quietest generator I've ever used of that size. Mind you my comparison is to old cheap non-inverter generators. I live in SF, so I'm not sure they'd let me put in something permanent as much as I'd like to. At some point I'd like to build a sound...

    DIY fail...

I assume this means drywall anchor and not into a stud. I’m the sort to periodically grab or lean on nearby objects, so that wouldn’t end well for me, but most people are better at knowing what not to touch than I am.

    Tang in a 4'x2' 50 gallon?

My regal is a fine example of this. It was in a standard 4’ 75. Not plump, but not skinny. I figured all was well until the owner claimed he got it as the same time as his 9” clam, roughly 10 years earlier. The regal should be twice that size, but is some combination of underfed, cramped, etc...
