Seeking Advice for Making Screen Top

I did it in the following order 1- cut aluminum framing & build frame to desired size 2- cut a piece of screen a few inches larger than frame and lay out over frame 3- rolled the edges under the frame (frame on the floor) so I can pull the screen tight 4- started with one side and lined up the...

You only love me because I...

all the fish in my tank fear me, once upon a time my clownfish didn't and she would attack me (even if it meant she had to jump out of the tank) but lately they all scramble when my hand goes into the tank but I suspect that if I tried my clown goby & algae blenny won't mind eating out of my...

    Sump conundrum!

I'll second what Erin said :) What's worked best for me in regards to pod population is incorporating a remote refugium in the cycle. In my case I have a tiny 5g (or less) fuge plumbed into the sump, it's fed by a dedicated pump so flow rate is dialed in independent of sump rate and overflows...

    Solar powered reef tank?

wondering if I should take the time to build my own switching relay setup so that the system can automatically switch to battery during power outage or cough up the cash for something like this and just use the 2 outlets for RA & 1 relay box...

Carbon dosing: Anyone switched from vodka to vinegar dosing before?

I was dosing both Vodka & Vinegar at one point, when I added GFO I stopped dosing Vodka primarily because I had no nitrate issues at the time (undetectable) but I did have PO4 issues so I found little use for all the carbon I was dosing. I still dose vinegar but it's mixed with my kalkwasser.

    Solar powered reef tank?

you hit the nail on the head Mike :) My summer bills can be as low as $150 but right now I'm burning $150 in natural gas alone, heater & stove are both gas powered and everything else is electrical so this is certainly a seasonal spike. I have a stone tile roof and frankly I don't love the idea...

    Solar powered reef tank?

from what I've seen online golf cart batteries are AGM. I'm all to familiar with the shortcomings of regular car batteries, in 5 years I've gone through 4 batteries in 2 cars due to the fact that they don't get used, I'm probably never buying another Lead Acid battery again

    Solar powered reef tank?

ddrueckh somehow I missed your comment earlier... my best bet on this is just use a couple of the batteries you mentioned as a backup (noticed how much cheaper they are) and only put powerheads on it, I've managed to run powerheads for hours before on a common car battery so it'll be nice to at...

    Solar powered reef tank?

grrrrrr you're the second person who said savings won't offset cost, I guess I was just enamored by the idea of powering my tank by the sun haha. Remember the current tank is in the garage while I build the setup inside, therefore right now it is being a power hog, past bill covered the coldest...

    Solar powered reef tank?

I should have explained that I'm not being crazy with these ideas, my most recent PG&E bill was $450 and I don't currently have the means to go full solar on my house... I am running a dedicated power line from the tank to the main breaker box in my garage which is adjacent to a useless area in...

    Solar powered reef tank?

Mark, I damn near expect you to respond when it comes to these topics as our brains seem to run in parallel when talking electronics, etc. :p I'd have to disagree with steps 2 & 3 haha, my tank is a tiny 57G and it's going to be in the heart of my house meaning ambient temps will never be...

    Solar powered reef tank?

no worries John lol I'm no expert which is why I am here with this post :) So in my list of items I want to run off this thing you'll notice I excluded heaters, I have 2 relay boxes for my Reef Angel, one will plug in the wall and one will plug into solar (in theory) so if power is lost one box...

    Solar powered reef tank?

Hi folks, me again with my DIY ideas :p Last night I picked up a couple of AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) marine batteries for 2 of my cars, these cars are a hobby and don't get driven like normal cars, therefore they spend extended periods of time untouched, well this is a problem when it comes to...

    $$$ MONEY $$$

sure thing, it's what got me hooked on VW's to begin with, this is my G60 (pic is about 10 years old) the one I described in my earlier post is a VR6 GTI, Corrado hasn't been driven for 5 years, it lives in storage.

    $$$ MONEY $$$

I will second this opinion, my other hobby is cars and I'm not talking exotics, literally run of the mill Volkswagens granted they are anything BUT run of the mill by the time I'm done with one, in any case my most recent VW project is a 1995 car which you can pick up on craigslist for $1000...
