Replacing Macro Algae with Corals in the Sump?

I wouldn't put something on the emergency, but putting a 45° or a 90° on the main doesn't seem completely crazy. However, sumps are so small that I would instead just buy a super cheap directional powerhead if you really needed additional flow. Those can be found for probably <= $20 used (or...

Death Autopsy - Any idea how to save the remaining fish?

I advocate for HTA, but also acknowledge errors or issues can happen. However, I know in the past I've had instances where I've seen issues with fish that were probably be just thinking there's issues with fish. Clowns are weird, so there's always a chance that when you look with a concerned eye...

    Operation goby

Would it overflow if the weir was completely plugged? I'm assuming that AIO has a specific return area with a smaller amount of water in it (that's how my AIOs have been). My logic being if you can prove to yourself it wouldn't overflow even if the weir was plugged, then you should feel safe to...

Death Autopsy - Any idea how to save the remaining fish?

To confirm my understanding, is the firefish also still alive?

    Operation goby

Plug your drain pipes. Let your pump run into the return section is totally empty and out is blowing bubbles. Does the tank overflow? If not, then you don't really have to worry about it overflowing, as long as your ATO auto deactivates if it runs too long or the display height gets too high.

Replacing Macro Algae with Corals in the Sump?

I had Xenia in my sump. Main downside relative to macros is it's very easy to toss out macros. It's a pita to toss out Xenia off rocks. Looks cool though. I had no issue with it traveling into the tank.

Are they Wi-Fi devices that connect to your home network, or they connect to each other?

Can I move an aquarium, on stand, via dollies?

I currently have it in a bucket with some saltwater. I'll likely continue to procrastinate on it long enough that it all dies off, and I throw it in the garbage and start over. Barring that, I'll use that same type of mesh bag I'm using for the refugium and give it a long rinse with a hose...

    Trough ATO

On a completely AIO, no overflow section, aquarium, how do people handle ATO? I've realized I've never done a saltwater tank this setup. Even my first one back around 2005 had an overflow and sump. I have a giant 150 gallon trough my stuff is in right now. I'm planning on just putting the ATO...

Can I move an aquarium, on stand, via dollies?

IT HAPPENED! VINDICATION! Fellow keepers of stuff, you can use the following in discussions with your partners. I have some metal shelving in my garage, which is the exact same footprint as my aquarium. However, the top rung is approximately 2in too low and I also wanted a bit of buffer. I...

    Where to start with Hydros

Be very careful with heaters and the ecoflow devices. I've almost killed my tank 3 times doing that. Twice last week. The issue is the ecoflows have a max output restriction. If you shoot past it, the entire AC output turns off and doesn't reactivate until you manually turn it back on. What...

Can I move an aquarium, on stand, via dollies?

Honestly that's been on my mind the whole time. I just don't think I can pull off how much it'd cost. I also was considering getting the floor supports added while the floor could be cut open, but I don't think I can do it in time. Tbh the other thought once I got it empty has been "do I...

Can I move an aquarium, on stand, via dollies?

Thanks all. I'm set. I've got the holding trough setup with the first light over it and skimmer and gyre and a billion heaters while I get it to temperature. In getting this far, I've realized the huge PITA is not going to be moving the tank, it's going to be tearing things down and getting...

Can I move an aquarium, on stand, via dollies?

Plan of record is drain everything, pull fish and rocks, put all into a trough or containers. Add bubbler and heaters. Drain sump. At that point I'll see how heavy it is and if I can get the dollies under while holding it steady with suction cups. If not, I'll pull the sump out and see if I...

Can I move an aquarium, on stand, via dollies?

Do you think building an extra support frame is overkill? I think it is, but I'd also be pretty pissed if I cause a red sea to degrade. Though if I do something so bad that the stand starts flexing, I'm probably going to end up with an aquarium on the floor anyway as it topples over?

Can I move an aquarium, on stand, via dollies?

I am getting my flooring replaced. I need to move my aquarium (thread with other details). I am trying to figure out how to minimize the hassle of this. My plan was move everything into a temporary holding tank in my garage, move the aquarium into the garage, move everything back into the...

    Michael's 300 In Vegas

A360XE? 19v seems tricky. It's not what I had in mind, but there's 180w, laptop, power supplies on amazon for ~$35. At a minimum you'd have half as many. If you're running at < 100% you could put more on them, but that seems like it's getting into gray area. This is similar to what I use and...

    Michael's 300 In Vegas

What's the wattage of the kessil lights? I bought some beefier meanwell power supplies for my tanks and got rid of a ton of bricks. They're available on Amazon, and meanwell is what kessil uses for the ap9x lights. I'd imagine they'd have some that could get rid of at least a couple of those at...

I definitely would have put it in the lid. So another good point :).

    Outside sump

This would be a secondary sump, primarily used for ease of maintenance and increased scale (eg dosing and having a giant kalk/2-part reservoir) or equipment I'd prefer not to have in the house (eg if I continue using ozone). The main equipment (skimmer, fuge, heaters) would still be in the sump...
