Only Filtration: Filter Floss l Thoughts?

I’m currently doing it on my 3g pico budget build. Only filtration is a HOB with filter floss I change weekly. I’d much prefer to have a skimmer, but the tank is too small and it wouldn’t fit the budget anyways. Skimmers are amazing. The reef octopus on my main tank has been pulling sludge non...

    210 gallon Dream tank

Great choice of color. It will go really well with your white stands. Maybe your subfloor isn't perfectly level? I had vinyl at my old place, and there were some pockets with a little bit of squish. It didn't bother me very much.

    Andrew's Red Sea Reefer 250

Updates: I decided to organize the aquarium clutter in my closet. This is where I keep my test kits, supplements, food, tools, etc. I found myself losing stuff quite often and purchasing things I already had. I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I also created a fragging station (I was doing this...

    Help tangs has developed spots

Man, when it rains it pours. Sorry to hear about this. As someone who doesn't QT fish, I feel like I've been playing with fire. I'm going to set up a QT tank or buy from pre-QT sources from now on. I appreciate you posting this kind of stuff, it will help us all in the long run.

    Just ordered some Reef Glitter!

"100% Reef-Safe (Probably?) We asked a shrimp, and it didn't say no" Why pay ultra coral prices when you can make your own at home, lmao

Booyaaahhh! I ran my first full marathon

I’ve been running for a few years now. I’ve done 3x half marathons so far. First time I was beat and finished with zero gas in the tank. Last time I felt like I could have pushed through a few more miles. A full marathon is a huge accomplishment, congrats man! I hope to get there someday.

For those interested in buying G2 Red Sea tanks

I would guess gen 1 based on the age, but I think g2 was released around that same time. I have a green “Reefer 250 v3” sticker on my overflow pipe, but it’s a Gen 1. Check the serial number tag in the overflow box to confirm (it should say G2 somewhere if it’s not G1).

For those interested in buying G2 Red Sea tanks

I've had a G1 250 for 4 years without seam failure. I guess I'm lucky, but also the tank is on the smaller end which helps. That being said, the front glass panel hanging off the edge of the stand with zero support makes no sense...

    210 gallon Dream tank

Looks great. I want to replace the flooring in my fish room, but I’m dreading moving all of my tanks. Hope the installation goes smoothly!

Kalk out, CO2 scrubber back in (and question on humidity)

That's weird. I would think dry air coming from the CO2 scrubber intake would keep the humidity relatively low throughout the tubing. Some moisture is good, I've always poured a tiny amount of water in the CO2 scrubber when I refill it, but I can't remember mine ever looking like a sauna. edit...

    210 gallon Dream tank

Sorry for your loss. Losing fish sucks. Your living room is really starting to come together, I can see your vision coming to life. What kind of flooring did you go with? Looks like LVP? I had waterproof LVP in my old condo and loved it.

They’re very stubborn and annoying. I did the following to get them under control: Filter floss changed weekly Added Bumblebee snails Coral snow 1x per week Feed fish small amounts with turkey baster, no broadcast feeding I did the shotgun approach, which worked well over time.

Yeah, I had an explosion a while back in my main tank (all of this rock came from that tank). I was feeding reef roids a couple times per week which I think contributed to the problem.

Discosoma Mushrooms - nice looking but still to be avoided?

I love discosoma. Some multiply way too quickly (purple, brown, green ones), but I've found the more $$ they are, the more manageable they are. They will end up in places you didn't put them, but I'm OK with it.

Update: Things are going fairly well. Corals seem happy for the most part. I was struggling to keep surface film from building up on the surface: To fix the problem, I decided to swap out the HOB for one with an integrated surface skimmer (I bought this on Amazon for $12.99, I've updated my...
