I use two part and always dose the same quantity of each. I adjust the dosage based on Alk testing. I test Ca far less frequently but it’s never out of range. I’m under the impression that two part solutions are “balanced” so theoretically it should always be 1:1.

This is true, but you're also able to do large water changes frequently without much time/effort. It takes me 5 minutes to do a 50% water change in my pico so I do them often. I use water from my RSR250 to remove the uncertainty of precise saltwater mixing.

I turned up the MP-40s a tad, removed as much cyano as I could, and covered the tank for a 3-day blackout. I'm hoping the combination of increased flow, reduced feeding, and 3 days of complete darkness will solve the problem. I turned off all dosers, except kalk to keep pH from dropping too low...

Same question, what brand do you use for Mg supplement? Good to know it's harmless at these concentrations, I'd still prefer to have it closer to NSW if I have the choice.

I use Red Sea blue bucket which mixes to 8 dKH. It seems like high dKH mixes like this are intended to replenish alkalinity (and other stuff) with water changes. I don't think this is optimal since it introduces Alk swings. I try to keep my alkalinity under 10 dKH since I always notice problems...
