What food does everyone put in their Avast Plank?

Wait, your plank has different openings? I thought all the planks are just augers that dump out whatever. I did buy mine second hand though. Are you referring to the mixing pump level or is there actually some sort of setting I'm unaware of?

Free guinea pig and cage - gone

I couldn't even consider stealing that amount of joy from you! I'll drop mine off tonight! ;)

Free guinea pig and cage - gone

Those guinea pigs look too happy for you to get rid of them. I think a better idea would be to get two more! I will, mournfully, PIF two guinea pigs from my house to you! :)

What food does everyone put in their Avast Plank?

Can people note, if they're feeding via the sump or directly in tank in their answer? Bonus points edit existing ones. Mine goes into the sump return section, onto a cheap power head to keep it all moving, then eventually up the return pump. I'm curious if anyone's doing pellets and other...

What food does everyone put in their Avast Plank?

Reef Jerky + a bunch of extra freeze dried mysis in mine. Jerky seemed light in big particles so I added the mysis. Edit: Fed into the sump.

    AWC reliability

oh that's awesome! That's almost exactly what I was thinking of. All require some intervention, but the likely failure characteristics of automation can be really different. If my doser's reservoir runs out of Alk, or the peristaltic line fails, the failure will be a lack of adding Alk and a...

    AWC reliability

Those are good points. My main concern is an automation that must have manual intervention periodically setup fails my is something I can reliably trust and debug when I go out of town for a week bar. Part of the value I'd be trying to get out of AWC is having a backup for all my dosing and what...

    AWC reliability

Googling, it appears that integration with the ATO is what people do. This is a problem given my usage of the red sea ATO on my peninsula... I'd need to somehow disable that (maybe toggle off the power), run, toggle back on. Maybe that's not too hard actually. I can control the pumps, and it'll...

    AWC reliability

Also thanks for that link. I was looking for that earlier and couldn't find it. That's reliable enough data that I believe the math on continuous. My concern is just the execution of it.

    AWC reliability

Thanks all. I think the plumbing and pumping part I can do pretty straightforwardly. I have the pumps and worst case a double peristaltic pump head I can buy cheap online. I still though don't see how these are safe over time, though I'm sure they're safe in normal conditions. Let's assume a...

    9 footer disaster

+1 tank looks awesome and sump looks tricky. Generally what will you do when the skimmer breaks or the floss roller breaks or you want to temporarily float a fish down there and it gets loose or a pump plumbing needs to be toyed with ... Does look like a cool and very roomy sump, but looks like...

    AWC reliability

I've been thinking though how to create an Auto Water Change device. I have all the parts I'd need, but I can't figure out how to really truly make one that's fault proof. Making one that works in good cases (happy path) is fairly straightforward, but making one that would work well when...

    Randy’s Flock o' Reef Tanks

omg the hook idea is obviously the right way these should work. I have a bunch of those in my garage for holding bike wheels and stuff, and will immediately use them for tank things now.

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

My experience is having a separate frag tank does help, but also avoiding a lot of LPS. Any time you get something where the reaction is "this could go on the sand" you need to stop and not get it. Eg this ginormous freaking chalice I have in my frag tank I will end up never being able to use...

    Richie's Reefer 500

Didn't setup the skimmer yet. Need to clean it before transferring it from the temp tub. Currently instead have a bubbler running in my drain section, which surprisingly doesn't lead to any bubbles in my display.

Nyos reef cement is awesome stuff. You do need to be careful to not push too much and turn it into dust, but it hardens so fast underwater it's shocking. Coral and fish seem unaffected by the residue in the water. @Coral reefer do you ever use this? I'm wondering if I should some carbon...

    210 gallon Dream tank

My understanding is the complicated and right answer is get the floor completely level and buy thicker stuff. The practical, make it better with less effort, answer seems to be this right here. At least that's based on my research before I got mine installed, while I was freaking out if it was...

    Hydros Maven delayed

I bought one second hand and that's the reason I would never ever ever recommend it to someone. I get the desire to make a buck, but there couldn't be a better justification for things like right to repair or open source. If the buying market was bigger I'd try and organize a class action...

Fuzzy green mushrooms and orange discosomas

Returning this again, I have two more rocks, maybe 3, available now that I'm resetting my tank. These definitely can take over rocks, but if kept isolated IMO look really nice Pickup in Redwood City. I'd prefer if someone swaps equivalent dry/live rocks for them, so preferences to anyone who...
