Nope! Adding rules as I go! :p One guess per person.

    $50 gift certificate available

At Saturday's swap I won a $50 gift certificate to Legendary Corals. I don't think I'll be able to use it. I'm just too far away from San Jose and my tank is already too full! What I'd like to do is give this to someone in the club. The winner will need to PM me their snail mail address so I...

    Gimmito's 450 gal L-shaped tank

Nice vid, Jim. I liked seeing you on camera this time. I gotta ask about that screen to the right of the filter. Looks like you had a dolphin try to jump out! ;) On a bit more serious note, what do you feel is the advantage of the Vortex over filter socks?

    Any reefers in Almaden?

Yes, SR water is from SCWA. SCWA covers Sonoma Co. and also delivers to Novato. Last I checked (~two yrs ago) there were NO plans for switching to chloramine.

    Any reefers in Almaden?

Don't know if you consider Santa Rosa 'bay area' but we are still just chlorine! From the BRS videos it seems Chloramine is a pain to deal with.

    Better than nothing 90gal

Sorry to say that cracked BH is caused by over tightening the white PVC fitting. It should be finger tight + 1-2 turns. See

QT list and meds to get!

This could get confusing. Seems like there are as many methods as fish keepers! This is what I do... For fish, I have a 10g QT/HT. Heater, any light or none, HOB filter. I use AquaClear just because they are cheap. When I'm ready to set up the QT I move one seeded sponge from a healthy tank to...

    Hi from the UK

If you are going to the two above (great stores btw), you should also stop by our new sponsor, California Reef Co. in Fremont. It's in between the other two. http://www.careefco.com/

    Best website/resource for Iding coral

Same method my wife uses. Most of her names end in 'thingie' :D :D There was an article in, IIRC, reef2reef, proposing a zoa naming convention. All those made up names are just crazy. How in the world can a zoa be named 'Gorilla nipples' and NOT be completely black.

Hornberson Reef - DSA 90 gallon mixed reef

Hang in there! It moved so quickly, I'd be suspicious of it being Ich. I haven't had experience with either Brook or Velvet (both known quick killers) but Ich has been a slow to no kill for me. I'd leave the DT fallow much longer than 3 weeks. At this point you've gone thru the pain and...

Questions on new to me equipment

Nice pickup! As sfsuphysics said, if the skimmer makes brown gunk, you're good to go. If you decide to change it take a look at Marine Depot's series 'Does it fit'. Cool videos of different skimmers in different AIO tanks. I have AI SOL blues. The only things that don't do well in my tank are...

My Review - Aiptasia Control: Joe's Juice vs Red Sea Aiptasia-X

This seems a bit over the top for the non-lab savvy. It's dangerous stuff! I've used Aiptasia-X and peppermints. Not sure if they were the L. wurdemanni. The X did a good job on what I could get to. I had a couple of aiptasia right in the middle of some zoas and there were a few polyps...

Hornberson Reef - DSA 90 gallon mixed reef

Sorry for your losses. Hope this is the end of your run of bad luck for this tank. I second the TT method for Ich. If you are sure it is Ich, catch the fish and put them in a 5G bucket. From your thread you have three dartfish, two clowns, a mandy and a Bangaii cardnal. Seems like that might...

    Switching Salts

Get the water swirling around. Tornado style! :) Pour salt in slowly. 3-4 lbs should take less than a minute. Saltwater should always be stirred not shaken. :D

    aqua-nut's 120 - getting back to salt!

Did you do this IN the tank? I can't imagine how. Seems like a shocking experience! :D The montis I went after were being removed. They were a great 'proof of concept' to see if I could keep montis alive, but aren't that colorful. Taking up too much space for the amount of visual return I'm...

    aqua-nut's 120 - getting back to salt!

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone. Stupid me, I did the video AFTER I took out three monti caps the size of my hand. I still have some chopping to do and of course moving some things into the new locations made available by the big chop! I've had real problems getting good pics of the...
