High daily alkalinity consumption - need advice

Any more background on what you are dosing, how often, how much and any changes you made since the last measure? Doubling consumption in 7 months does not seem outrageous, have seen quite a few tanks that have 4 dkh daily.

Electrical advice - lighting fixtures - needs professional help (potentially)

This is the current Hydros setup A dual plug outlet, but probably considered one only. I am not an electrician and I was not planning to become one, but I agree this is close to being maxed out. There was no outlet in my entire hallway so this was added shortly before the tank. The light...

I was able to locate the issue, potentially. The Hydros XP8 power bar seems to make clicking sounds (turning on and off things) when the issue with the Helix light bar occurs. Again, this issue comes and goes but seems particularly prevalent when the lights turn on in the morning. The Hydros...

Yes, this is a good recommendation, I will try that.

A lot, given my electricity bill :)l. I went through the devices, and it looks like approx <1200 watts. However, if the backup heater kick-in, it would add another 700 watts. This should not be the case though.

Yes, agreed. It is not that the skimmer is not working. For quite some time now, before and after vacation, we have been doing larger water changes weekly, around 15%+ every single week. Trajectory is upwards - see below, but fish have been growing, more feeding etc. So yes, I could try to do...

Yes, that could be a conclusion. But in fairness, ALL the aquarium equipment is connected to one (1) outlet (which is somewhat connected to the room next door), and my underlying suspicion is that the whole problem is an electrical issue which has potentially nothing to do with either Hydros or...

    Nabil's 81G Fiji Cube

Yes, this works, e.g. for my ozone or ATO (after water change) perfectly, but NOT for the skimmer. CoralVue recommended to redo the collective but I really did not want to do that since everything else is working very well as intended. I have played around with this for hours, chatted with...

July/Aug 2025 Coral Magazine Article: Phosphate - A Nutrient With Diverse Effects (Hans-Werner Balling)

I am not sure how many had a chance to read this article in the print or only a couple of days ago released digital edition, but I found it very interesting. Unfortunately, it is not an easy read (and at the end of the article he recommends two of their products :)), and it does assume certain...

    Nabil's 81G Fiji Cube

I agree with your sentiment, but this member has not been online since September of last year. I did get a good idea though from the write up to add a water level sensor to the skimmer sump chamber to avoid overflowing the skimmer after feeding. While there is a minimum time off setting...

    I only bring see-through buckets :).

Potentially lowering the skimmer pump speed and water level while increasing the tank turnover provides a more consistent skimming experience. It did somehow look like the skimming had improved visually, but the end results have not, unfortunately.

No, 40% for the Helix light bars.

It seems to be only the dimming feature; they do not seem to have any issue if not dimmed.

Week 1 status update after some changes: 1. Adjusting skimmer settings did not change anything - nitrates and phosphates remained almost the same as last week, i.e., 26 vs 0.33 mg/L respectively. 2. Increasing the tank turnover rate significantly had no impact on nutrients. HOWEVER, it did...

Electrical advice - lighting fixtures - needs professional help (potentially)

So this is the biggest mystery of all. Today was the same issue as stated above again—I have not been able to use the new connectors. The rear light bar turns off every 45 seconds for 1 second. This was in the morning, and it stopped in the afternoon without me making ANY change. I work from...

So no daily auto water changes, correct?

Soldering did not fix the issue, unfortunately :(. It is so annoying that it turns on and off almost exactly every 43 seconds for 1 sec or 2. And only the rear light bar, not the other three lights which are connected the same way. Will try the connectors @MarcosD recommended next.

    NanoCrazed's Lazy Tank(s) Journal

I would not do blackouts or use hydrogen peroxide. Both address only symptoms and not the root cause. Key is to know which type of Dino you actually have - microscope.
