Bubble algae that won't go away

Folks, For the past few weeks, I have been battling bubble algae. I have been trying to scrape it off during water changes (straight into the python). After the whole Vibrant fiasco, is it still advisable to use? I did lose some snails the last time I had tried it (which makes sense since one of...

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

OK folks, the last of my Neptune reagents ran out and I have to swap in my ABC reagents. What workflow do y'all follow? Is it as simple as ---> Rinse out original Neptune bottles with RODI, pour in ABC reagents? What about calibration? Turns out that the box of ABC reagents did not come with...

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Anyone selling a working / non-working Trident? I need one to test with without taking mine offline.

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Yep - That's what I do too - https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/thesassyindians-13-5-gallon-m%CC%B6o%CC%B6n%CC%B6e%CC%B6y%CC%B6-%CC%B6p%CC%B6i%CC%B6t%CC%B6-nano-mixed-reef.26438/post-425553 Turns out I had a loose tube connection. All good now :)

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Hmm... I did a quick test with a Voss bottle. Looks like the peristaltic pump in the Trident is not able to pull in reagents from the bottom 1/3rd of the 800ml Voss bottle (and yes, I have an air hole in the bottle cap). Maybe I have a leak in the tubing somewhere (?).

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Haha that's exactly what I was designing :) The idea is to place the Trident internals above three threaded mates for VOSS bottles. Not sure how photosensitive / unstable the reagents are though, so might need to plasti-dip the outside of the bottles and leave a narrow vertical window to read...

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Interesting! Though I don't like the idea of the bottles just "sitting on a base." Looks like a great starting point though!! Do you have a video of assembling the internals?

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

This is tickling my brain cells. I might consider designing a 3D printed case for the Trident that holds the ABC reagent bottles.

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Yes - I have heard that they require you to use the original Neptune bottles. Hope they are able to source the correct form factor. But for a 2x cost difference, I will suck it up and put in the extra work :P

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Oh I see - I misinterpreted the way they make the calibration solutions. I thought the dKH/Ca/Mg values of the calibration solutions should be close between batches. What you said makes sense. But then again, it doesn't explain the expiration dates on their reagents and why they ask no to mix...

These are the values of Neptune's standard calibration solutions.

Let me know when you have your electronics finalized. I can help PCBfy it and make it a standalone device.

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

@IOnceWasLegend That was my expectation as well. My last few sets of reagents had quite some variance in their concentrations. And since numbers are all I understand, here are the values from my last few reagent boxes: dKH Ca Mg 8.3 400 1220 8.45 460 1355 8.2 470 1450 8.1 415 1340...

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Very interesting to hear that all of you are mixing old and new reagents without any issue. How does that not affect the Trident test results? Isn't the whole idea behind shipping these kits with calibration solution that no two reagent mixes will have the exact concentrations?

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Unfortunately I live on the peninsula, so Oakland is a little too far for me. Will have to order directly from their website. @Hamada you live close by - where do you get your reagents from?

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Wait, so Neptune's expiration / "do not mix remaining reagents" is hogwash?
