Jeff's 75G conversion from FOLR to reef

The first time someone on ReefCentral related this feeding regimen to me, I had the same reaction. Since I’ve been doing all these tasks for years now, they seriously only take 1-2 minutes each. Spread throughout the day, it doesn’t amount to much at all. For comparison, running a minimal set of...

Jeff's 75G conversion from FOLR to reef

I forgot to mention earlier, I target nitrates of 0.2 ppm. If it drops near 0, I skim less and harvest chaeto; if it’s too high I skim wet and let the chaeto grow. If nitrates get above 2.0, then I turn on a reactor with beads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Jeff's 75G conversion from FOLR to reef

@Eugene I fatten my fish up on the weekends, feeding 3-4x a day. First feedback of the day is Nori. I make tiny cuts in the edge a sheet, then cross-cut tiny bits into the tank. Everyone has been trained to eat their veggies and my fish develop amazing color eating nori daily. Next feeding is...

    Tygunn’s Reborn DSA 90

And a shout-out to @tygunn for selling me this really nice tank and @coral4me for the really cool rockwork, which was already encrusted with many colors of corraline algae, tunicates and sponges.

    Tygunn’s Reborn DSA 90

Clockwise from the top, the photobomber Lyretail Anthias, Two ORA Pink-Tipped Birdsnest colonies from @Chromis (originally from last year's swap!), Neon Toadstool from this year's swap, Hollywood Stunner from @Chromis, Two Pink BTA siblings from a split about two years ago, they've stayed...

    Tygunn’s Reborn DSA 90

At the top is a Rainbow Anemone (thank you BAR Raffle) and at the bottom is a rescue from Aquatic Collection. It's a little bleached, but it crawled all the way down there from the top of the pillar, so I think it's going to be fine. For $25, I decided that it was worth trying to rehabilitate it.

    Tygunn’s Reborn DSA 90

Eco-Tech Marine Vortech MP10 with one of @grizfyrfyter's anemone guards. And my Sunrise Dottyback about to savage my high-fin goby who hasn't yet figured out there are a dozen caves under the rocks right behind him.

    Tygunn’s Reborn DSA 90

Finally decided to spring for a Kessil H-380 grow lamp. Wow does chaeto love this light. I started with two baseball-size clumps and the chaeto compartment is now half full of macroalgae.

    Tygunn’s Reborn DSA 90

The heart of the sump. This is the first Reef Octopus I have owned and I must say I am impressed. Coral-Vue 150-INT. The sump is a Trigger Crystal 43 and the skimmer would not fit into the central compartment as shipped, so I remanufactured a plastic slip-barb 90 elbow. The skimmer has to run 1...

    Tygunn’s Reborn DSA 90

Simplest plumbing job I've ever done! Though the return line is about to become a 3-way manifold for a chiller and various water conditioners.

    Tygunn’s Reborn DSA 90

This build thread is a bit backwards I guess; here’s the rebooted tank with all the critters and corals from my IM 30L and DSA 60 cube, plus a few new things picked up at Aquatic Collection today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Jeff's 75G conversion from FOLR to reef

Yes, that's correct, only the big pieces go in the tank. I feed only about 1/3 of a cube at one time. I keep the partial cubes in a daily pillbox in the freezer.

What in the heck is this? Hitchhiker on a new coral.

After some Googling, I think this is a species of medusa worm. Reefcentral posters say they are related to sea cucumbers and come with the same dangers. Not going in my tank.

So the longer I am in this hobby, the more I have realized how important proper particle size is for feeding what you want to grow and what you want to starve. Frozen foods in general offer a myriad of particle sizes; the "juice" from frozen foods is perfect for algae, diatoms, dinoflagellates...

    Jebao DC-6000 Pump Repair

Has anyone here repaired a DC return pump? One of mine seized up and I ordered a replacement rotor for it. The rotor arrived today, but the pump does not spin. The power supply brick is putting out a solid 24V, the controller lights up normally. What's the mostly likely failure at this point?

    Looking for a clam

At the Seattle club I belonged to, we made a group order directly from Vietnam, but Idk if there would be sufficient interest here?

    Looking for a clam

Neptune had a couple beautiful large ones last weekend (6-8"), but they are in the $250 tank. There was a 4-6" mid last week in the $150 tank, but I didn't see it when I walked through last.
