Uh oh... just had an idea pop in my head!

tank height is certainly a personal preference thing, some people like their tanks deeper some will avoid deep tanks like it's the plague. So simply based on personal preference I think 33x26x20 would be awesome which is only 75 gallons in volume but that is still almost double your current 40...

    SPS STNing, any ideas?

I bought it from a BAR member over a year ago, there are a couple of vendors online who sell it. Seems to be more popular in Europe than here

    SPS STNing, any ideas?

I finally have GFO running, I am using P04x4 a polymer coated GFO. It was pretty awesome to be able to fill the reactor and not worry about rinsing :D Hopefully this resolves the high P04 granted I only put in half a cup but I will be measuring & observing over the next couple of weeks.

    FREE: Female Ocellaris Clown

Hey Erin I will probably have to go out to Oakland late this afternoon/early evening. If no one else asks for it would this evening be good to drop her off after my Oakland trip?

    FREE: Female Ocellaris Clown

Hi folks, I have a lovely female ocellaris clown on my hands that I had promised to @Kensington Reefer but unfortunately with my current work schedule, etc. it has been practically impossible for me to get out to his area. He suggested that I offer it to someone closer to me and that's where we...

new tank plans, help me plan it

well I have 3 skimmers and no clue which one I want to stick with... I don't have bubble traps in my current setup and no issues with bubbles. Maybe I should do away with the bubble trap & run a single adjustable baffle... This would help considering the only issue with this tank is that it's a...

new tank plans, help me plan it

Tank is a TruVu rectangular 24"x13"x16" which I plan on splitting into 3 chambers. From right to left; 8" fuge, 6" return section & 8" skimmer section. The return section is 2" short to accommodate 3 baffles 1 inch apart to make a bubble trap. My question - how tall should the bubble trap be...

    Water quality report

After reading everything I would narrow this down to these few points; A. What is the current phosphate situation in your tank? B. What is the phosphate measurement in your tap? C. Based on both variables above I would decide how to use, ie; my tank is currently suffering from high phosphates...

new tank plans, help me plan it

it's not a big big must to have removable components but I'd like to be able to alter the size of baffles/traps if say I don't like the water level or I need to lower/raise the bubble trap around the overflow tube, etc. that's pretty much the only reason I want to be able to take it apart. Once...

new tank plans, help me plan it

haha this thread just gets funnier over time, no don't worry I haven't hatched ANOTHER plan, still sticking to the 57 illuminata in-wall tank. Here's what I'm looking at working on next, The Sump. It's been a long long while of research and entertaining different ideas before settling here, as...

    Water quality report

I will say this, if you don't run RO/DI at the least do a 3 stage filter, it's cheap, it wastes no water as long as it has no RO stage, you can run 1 sediment filter, 1 loose carbon cartridge and 1 carbon block, this way there is less to be concerned with when it comes to what conditioners can &...

    Water quality report

well then at 28 tds at the tap maybe I should try only removing sediment and use conditioned water for a little while haha

    Kalkwasser

You CAN dose Sodium Hydroxide (not sure why on earth anyone would do it) it will boost alk but not calcium thus causing an imbalance, therefore Calcium Hydroxide is the winner still :) by the way, important to point out some safety notes with pickling lime, yes it's for consumption but the...

    Water quality report

well you are in luck, I just cleaned, bleached, disinfected and recharged my RO/DI system (new cartridges & new carbon). Naturally every time I do this I take a report of how my system is doing with all the new cartridges. My Tap water measured at a very very impressive 28 on my TDS meter, of...

    SPS STNing, any ideas?

Well, I'm pretty sure I figured it out... Mike was kind enough to test my water for me yesterday with his Hanna Phosphorus kit and the result was 2.5 ppm so it appears that I have way too much phosphates. 1ppm is probably the highest I'd like my tank to be at and I have some work cut out for me...

    DC pump good/bad?

and I stumbled across this; http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-spare-part-rotor-for-JEBAO-DC3000-DC5000-DC6000-DC9000-DC12000-PUMP-/281698589690?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item41968b5bfa at $10 a piece, I'd buy a couple of spares just because...
