thanks! added it to the poll choices. In fact, I did received a mariculture torch and it was indeed the first torch to show BJD symptoms.

    Husbandry and Bacterial Infections

Hi All, I recently had BJD in my tank and wondering where the heck it came from. I had a few changes in my tank that maybe have caused it. I created a quick poll to see what others thought.

    IM 40 Torch Tank

10/5 update Torch 1, Torch 3, Torch 4, and Torch 5 died between 10/1 and 10/3. Torch 6-9 are still alive and so far show no infection. Unfortunately, I lost Torch 4 which was a a super nice dragon soul! Cipro. One more night of dosing, but everything looks much better now!

    IM 40 Torch Tank

Tank has been hit with BJD. If I can track it back to one event, the first appearance came from my mariculture torch. At the time I didn't know it was BJD, I only remember the nasty smell from the water. Since the other torch wasn't affected, I assumed everything was good. CFM: I picked up a few...

    Cipro

Thanks for the experience. Did you do 1 pill for 5 days, or 5 pills for 5 days?
  7. fishy408

    Cipro

What do you guys think at this point? Should I go ahead and start treatment or monitor the torches for possible symptoms?

Hey All, it's been claimed but thank you for the interest. If it falls through, I will reach out to the second person that was interested.

    Cipro

A torch that I received a couple of weeks ago died in 24-48 hours when I first noticed tissue recession. I didn't know what BJD was at the time, but the reference to "smell" gave it away. A second torch got BJD and I used Iodine, but it wasn't helpful. I was able to cut off the infected head...

    Cipro

These things are hard to get if you don't know where to look. Called a few vets locally for a prescription (Cipro) - no success Called a couple of Koi Shops (Oxolinic Acid) - no success, they also have never heard of it but did offer other medications they used on their kois.

    Cipro

Oddly enough this link seems to be broken on my mobile device but not on my pc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxolinic_acid Would be nice if there was a place locally to pick it up. I wonder why LFS don't carry them.

any suggestions on where to purchase?

    Cipro

lost a couple of torches to BJD. Tried iodine/reef primer and the torches seems to be ok. Plan is to have cioro readily available just in case another torch gets BJD, then I would probably treat the tank. :-(

    Cipro

Looking to possibly treat my tank but not sure where to get this.

    Lowering phosphate

I dose phosphates/nitrates, the main reason being I rather have a little more than have 0. For phosphate reduction: protein skimmer/refugium. For phosphate increase: add more fish By balancing the phosphate/nitrate intake and removal I find a happy balance. My phosphates hop between .01 to .09...
