    Nhan’s 140g

I was going to comment the same thing as @Coral reefer , but that's an interesting point. Still feels wrong though. Maybe taking a different view on it, would it feel safe to cut a visible hole all the way through the overflow? Pin prick or gaping hole the answer should be the same. The answer...

    Help tangs has developed spots

I don't want to pile on here, especially given Michael you're probably bummed, but this is the key theme to take from the thread. There's other valuable stuff too, but using tech industry speak, if you do a root cause analysis or 5-whys analysis, the source of these issues are likely this.

    Richie's 48x24x12 frag tank

Lost the clam. Rest of the tank seems fine. Bummer because I had that clam a long time, but nice this tank is so robust.

    Richie's 48x24x12 frag tank

New problem for the day. ATO dumped about 20 gallons of freshwater into my frag tank. Saw it in the morning, turned a fan on over it and went to work. Finally checked salinity just now and it's about 28.0ppt. I pulled about 6 gallons of water out and added a bit under 5 gallons just to boost a...

    Help tangs has developed spots

:'( Hard to tell from the pics. If they've been getting spots for awhile, hopefully ich. If they got to that phase out of nowhere, probably velvet. Either way +1 aggressively treat. Definitely want to avoid having any cross-contamination if you can avoid it, especially right now. Even if it...

    Help tangs has developed spots

How quickly did this come on? Looks like a pretty advancing case of ich so presumably been progressing for awhile. If it actually was just a quick, today, somehow thing then the analysis would change. Lots of good info on humble fish: https://humble.fish/community/threads/marine-ich.11/ Also...

    210 gallon Dream tank

Sounds good. The reason I personally would do at least one ICP test and I'd consider swapping all the water is there's no proof things died because of ammonia. Things dying also causes ammonia. In your position I wouldn't know what actually caused the problem, so I'd want to rule things out...

    210 gallon Dream tank

RE the responses to mine. TBH I'm still not really following the timeline, but don't feel any obligation to clarify on my behalf. Seems like there was a lot of fish and rock moves between multiple tanks from multiple sources, some of which had different issues going on (coral deaths), and in the...

Not the documentaries we typically like to watch

Interesting. Added to my watchlist. I'm sure there'll be a lot of negative reactions to it, but good to have an outside view on things to refresh blindspots. Has anyone watched it yet?

    210 gallon Dream tank

We just got ours done with very similar looking stuff. Very happy so far. Make sure to do the thing where you randomly stagger them. Does seem to really help. Are you going to put the tank on it, or have the tank directly on the subfloor? Pros and cons both ways.

    DIY Automated Alkalinity Tester

I ended up pausing on this. I was running into the calibration issues people have with equipment that's basically the same (Kh carer, KHG). I then ran out of time and stopped fixing. I do want to fix this again, but I need to get all the acid + calibration fluids plus a couple hours. I can...

    210 gallon Dream tank

Also in case it's useful, my intuition would be unless that rock really really really smelled and visually you could see a bunch of dead stuff on it OR unless you removed a ton of rock and added a ton of rock, a 200 gallon tank having ammonia spike that high from just adding some rock seems...

    210 gallon Dream tank

@MichaelB, this is really sad and I'm sure frustrating/demoralizing. My sympathies. Adding a bit to @derek_SR's points, something here seems really weird. I think the questions aren't trying to disprove the original theory just in general, but if something weird happened it might be a sign the...

Algae growing on dead coral skeleton

My experience is the right solution is what @Coral reefer and @Darkxerox said. Unless you have a foxface or something that already can eat all the GHA (which if so you likely wouldn't be asking), trying to fight a growth battle with algae vs coral is just frustration that will go on forever. It...

    Eric's 125 build.

Two days ago my heater sensor alerted me before bed. I assumed it was cause I had the room heater off. I remotely turned it on and went to sleep. I woke up in the morning to my wife telling me my aquarium in the office was beeping. I went in and my return line had came loose and my pump was...

    PizzaOven '25 Budget Build

I have some in my display or at least did before I moved everything into a holding tank. I am not sure I'll move them back in given how quickly they can spread. I had a central rock that I still have no idea how they got onto (I think one detached and floated onto it) and even after scraping...

    Careers in marine aquatics

Is the goal to A. work with things related to a reef aquarium, based on your experience doing so, with minimal incremental prep Or B. work on a field related to reef aquariums even if it requires a lot of training I imagine doing aquarium maintenance is similar to A, and marine biology is...

    Tank tour sign up thread

My tank is a tub on my garage floor + my frag tank, since I haven't set up my display again yet. I'll probably sit this one out. Thanks for the ping though

Free Berghia Nudibranchs – San Rafael, CA

FWIW I can super highly confirm that berghia nudis can survive with wrasses. I've seen my wrasses ignore ones floating in the water or suck in and spit them out. Similarly @dandemeyere had a bunch of wrasses in his tank last time I saw it, pre-aiptasia destruction by nudis. I can't say how/why...
