Odd that the TDC sensor went bad. Was it OEM or aftermarket? I rebuilt at least 3 engines so far and never replaced them! I do clean them as debris tends to stick to it. Especially metal shavings (magnetic?). TDC sensors are easy to check with a multimeter.

Salt is not that bad. If you got cast iron and then threw down some draino or another for of harsh acid, then it will add to the corrosion.
