Q1 '25 Budget Build Entries - VOTE NOW!

It was probably all the DBTC robot posts. We should not display the DBTC on the "front page" latest posts. Same thing we do for buy/sell/trade forum. Been requesting this for a long while now....

Heater recommendations ... again (and Hydros questions)

Just got a second unit today for the backup heater. And interestingly enough, they both read the same temp. Usually doesn't happen and two units are off by a little bit. But to answer your original question, it looks like it only heats it when it goes off by a whole degree. It's at 77.1 and it...

    Hydrometer + built-in thermometer

I don't understand why you're fretting about 0.7 PSU or what your end game is trying to be so precise. But at any rate, that's within the device's error range, so it's functioning as normal. If you want something more accurate, the Milwaukee MA887 is not your answer. From Milwaukee MA887 manual.

Torch Tank I've never "formally introduced" these tanks, but I have two IM30 tanks that share a sump that house all my torches. It's around 60-70 gallons of total water volume. And being that I was just using what was on hand (read: hoarding), I set this up to replenish the calcium carbonate in...

Heater recommendations ... again (and Hydros questions)

I don't actually have a controller on the tank, not sure I'm even going to add one, so I don't really have a history of what the temp ranges are currently. But every time I look, tank has always been between 77-78 degrees. I have usually used the Ranco thermostat, to control heat, but there is...

Heater recommendations ... again (and Hydros questions)

I use Ranco for controller on/off of heaters and in some of my systems there is also apex as a third fail safe in addition to the heater itself. Given that I have plenty of redundancy and fail-safe built-in, I have used these hitop heaters for years, probably 10+ units in all. Only one has...

Only Filtration: Filter Floss l Thoughts?

If you really want a skimmer for your nano tank, look up Mame Skimmer 3. They're made in Japan. But generally, water changes in a nano are your friend.

Let there be light! I got the other mounts and all the lights are up now. I've never been blamed for having too little lights. Seeing around 450 on the top of the rocks in the middle and between 225-300 on the sandbed depending how close you are to the glass. I ran out of wire sleeves for my...

    Willie’s super budget 168 build.

Eyes are one thing, but I'd be worried about anything plastic or acrylic, UV can turn it super brittle.

    Long term reliable bubblers?

My choice was colbalt aquatics usb air pump. I have around 5 of them. I just fired a few up and they're all still running after owning them for 3-4 years. Too bad I think they discontinued them. I bought them when they were still blue and didn't come with a usb bank...

150 Gallon We have lights! Well one light so far. I was just gonna use RMS arms sitting on top of the side of the tank, but thought hanging would look better. Still need to plug in the two xr30 and get a couple of xr30 mounts from a buddy he has laying around the garage . I got lazy and used...

IM75 PSA: don't overtighten your unions. I busted up my calcium reactor while cleaning and refilling with media yesterday. I was lucky that the union was a common brand (Lasco) and was easy to get. I was able to cut off part of the recirculating manifold and remove a piece of the pipe from...

150 Gallon Tank Took a week long trip for the kids' spring break, but I managed to get some rocks and sand into the 150 Gallon tank before I took off. Put in a Maxspect nano-block from the IM75 and for giggles, I threw in some tiny bottles of MicroBacterXLM start, Dr. Tim's One and Only and...
