Help - API Nitrate Test Kit - Reliable?

On a side note about API test kits, I used the BAR standard for ALK and the API test kit was accurate. It took 10 drops of the regent to get the color change. 10 drops = 10dkh, even tho the standard is 10.6dkh I think thats pretty good for a $5 test kit.

Caulerpa alternatives that fill the same niche.

Live aquaria and some other sites have special sections for marine algae. There are lots of decorative species not sure how well the work for nutrient export. Mermaids hair, shaving brush and red macro algae are some.

    Controller Question

I wish I could turn off graphing at times. Like when calibrating will throw off the logs.

    Finger infection

Look all I'm saying is that the fact he had a meltdown caused by a heater malfunction increased the likelihood of some nasty sh!t in the tank water. Hot = bacterial breeding ground = more likely to get an infection. Thanks for the magnet info, bookmarked.

    Finger infection

Really? I was referring to Vibrio becoming more aggressive and virulent at higher temperatures. You say this isn't applicable to all species. Site some sources besides google.com. BTW, do you know how magnets work?

    Can you site a source?

    Finger infection

I think a key part of this is that his tank was at higher than normal temps just before his infection. http://reeftools.com/news/coral-and-seahorse-vibrio-infections-temperature-related/

    Vortech Short Pulse

doubtful. Maybe if the tank was already weak it would break or the tank was half full and you had a 6" wave. I use short pulse in my rimless 17gal ADA tank, no explosions... yet.

    Controller Question

Well ya of course it should just work. Look on the bright side, the extra light is a nice indicator that the pump is running, also the loud clicking of the relay is soothing.

    Controller Question

Nope, simple process, flash firmware, upload new webpages, profit.

    Controller Question

The fix for that issue is to use a small night light plugged into the same outlet. When the dosing pump comes on the light comes on and the extra current that the light draws should ensure that the switch turns off. I use a cheap LED night lite from ikea with my aqualifter top off pump. Nice...

    Controller Question

Logging is one of the best things I have found about having a controller. Being able to see the last month of pH and temp can give a better idea of how things are progressing. Reeftronics is a great site that does some neat things. Here is a link to my tank status for the last 30 days. Only...
