    Friend for my Maroon Clown.

I had a maroon clown in my lightly stocked 40 breeder, which was probably still not enough space for her. She got pretty big and mean. My sixline was probably the one fish that wasn't bullied around ever. 16 definitely seems small given the temperament (typical) your describing.

So, today’s project was setting up a dosing pump to dose kalk. Based on tank volume and consumption, I only need 30ml per day to keep up with what my water changes aren’t providing. I used this Reef Chemistry Calculator: http://reef.diesyst.com/chemcalc/chemcalc.html Yes, that’s a quart-sized...

    Hi! I'm new here.

I really like my Tunze Osmolator ATO (regular, not the nano). It has an optical sensor, but it also has a redundant float switch to prevent overfill. Also, the pump is relatively inexpensive to replace if it breaks (which hasn't yet for me). I have an Apex and have done my own break out box...

So, had the PAR meter today and was able to measure lighting in my tank. Glad I was able to borrow it, because it's definitely different than I thought it would be: Light: AI Prime HD (older one, not the current AI Prime 16) Height: The light is 8-9" from the surface of the water to try to...

Pointers - looking into 3D Printing

So, how big are these spools? Do they fit in a gallon ziplock? I browsed some videos/images, and realizing they're probably bigger than I thought. I may have ordered 4-5 spools..... was that overkill?

Thanks, I ordered Hatchbox based on reco from the all3dp website. Any particular reason to stick with brighter colors? Are you able to see issues easier?

Totally agree to KISS at first. My plan is to work with the kids to start with the base set-up, calibrate, get familiar with the printer, and ensure it's working out of the box before adding other variables that could go awry. Then from there, add mods/upgrades as needed. Btw, how far does a...

Really appreciate the offer for guidance. I’ll probably be reaching out at some point after Christmas with questions. For context, I’m not an engineer, but don’t mind tinkering. I’ve built my own computer, done Linux builds, do most repairs around the house. Which basically means if I can find...

Are there are particular forums that are good for 3D printing? I seem to come across thingiverse and all3dp a lot. However, looking for something like BAR / ReefCentral. Aside from Reddit, any particular discussion forums that would be useful to start stalking?

I ordered PLA as it seems the default for genera projects. Once we get a few prints down with the kids, I’ll order some PETG to try out some reef projects.

Water changes don’t seem to be cutting it to keep up with Alk in particular. I know Alk (Blue) will show larger swings vs Calcium (Green). Bump up a week ago was the last water change. Doing a 2-3 gallon water change weekly in the tank. This evening: Salinity 35 Calcium was 400 Alk 7.14 pH...

What do you do for heater redundancy

Thanks for the pointers. Live in SF, so we haven’t been as impacted by power shutoffs. I’ll plug both heaters into the Apex for now, and keep thinking about a separate controller down the road. Need to see how tight the two heaters are in the chamber.

What do you do for heater redundancy

Hi all, Did some searching and it seems lots of folks do different things. I currently have a single Jager heater in my nano (14G), controlled by my Apex Lite. There’s not the same amount of room vs when I was running a 40G tank with a 20G sump. But, I just got another Jager for redundancy...

Pointers - looking into 3D Printing

Hi all, It seems like there are a few folks on who do 3D-printing. Looking for some advice: I know it's not necessarily for any sort of savings, but have been looking at 3D-printers for the kids of course ( not for anything I might want to build for the reef tank or otherwise ;) ) For...

How big are Tubs Blue Zoas supposed to be?

Thanks. Just making sure there was something else going on. The ones above are normal sized zoas (closed up because I had just fed)

How big are Tubs Blue Zoas supposed to be?

I’m pretty sure these a Tubs Blue zoa’s I got from DBTC a year or two back but can’t seem to find the thread or anything in my PMs. My question: these were small when I got them, but haven’t gotten any bigger (zoas on the bottom vs the others for reference). Are zoas usually this small? The...
