    270 gallon build

I feel it...I told myself this throughout the whole build. Then after a few water changes, wished I went smaller..lol That stand is crazy clean. I'm diggin it. Enjoy the building process. As slow or as fast as you go, enjoy the journey. Be forewarned, here lurks some savage heathens that are...

The dewalt air movers were on sale at costco. Not sure if that deal is still active, but they're worth having on hand.

KCL Potassium Chloride Spray Instead of Dip

I've left some freshly shipped frags in a KCL dip for 30 minutes when the baby crapped himself...totally forgot about em for a sec. All fine when I pulled them out. I would imagine as long as you keep them wet with multiple applications they should be fine. I have yet to try it tho, so take...

How difficult is planted compared to reef

Look up Takashi Amano of ADA. His tanks are amazing. I tried emulating the look but didn't up keep it, as they require lots of pruning and attention. Natural look, only 3-4 species of plants...it requires alot of restraint to not add something that takes away from the look. During COVID, I...

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

I knew something was up when I saw all of my hermits with a nassarius shell on lol. What are your thoughts on strombus alatus? From what I read, they'd stay mainly in the sandbed. Any experience with those taking out snails?

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

Hahah...still got around 12 spots to add..one side of the scape is still pretty bare. Good call out on the sunset..looking at it, it could be a major problem if it started encroaching on the areas with sticks..I think I'll move that to its own rock to be safe since Its a pretty fast grower

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

The temp has been pretty steady around 78-80. I think it hit 81 for a couple hours when the mini split didn't turn on. Lack of food may be possible. There hasn't been much algae to graze on compared to before. One i can confirm was a casualty to the carpen nem due it the shells proximity to it...

    Patrick's 81G - the last dance

6 month update The tank has been coming along. Everything stabilized for a good month until I had an unexpected nutrient spike.A couple weeks back and thought the little chaeto I had in the algae Rx was dying off. After checking things out, still had that golf ball sized chunk in there and was...

Should Michael run a closed loop on his 210 gallon?

@MichaelB if you keep your tank waterless for too long the BAR mob tends to get restless...I know this intimately..lol

Should Michael run a closed loop on his 210 gallon?

After doing some quick research I'd probably go with this. Its DC, so noise is cut down. At 180 watts youd be able to power it using an ecoflow for a little while. Id consult @richiev on this..hes a wiz at calculating this stuff and can give you an honest answer. Its cost effective enough...

Should Michael run a closed loop on his 210 gallon?

I had one set up on a reef flo dart. At the time the flow was great, but ideally for a tank your size I'd spring for the hammerhead. I don't recall what the flow rate was..somewhere in the ball park of 5-6K. There's larger pumps, but the larger you go the more heat, noise, and electricity If yhe...

Should Michael run a closed loop on his 210 gallon?

While I love the clean look of closed loops, it would take an immense amount of power to equal the amount of flow you can attain with low wattage powerheads we have available to us today. If there were DC options that could match the flow you'd get from a hammerhead I'd say go for it...but...

    Avast Marine Plank

They have step by steps on how to set it up using OSC command. I got lazy and set it up using IF Time commands. This shot is of my reef jerky one. It turns on the feeder for 30 seconds. My pellet one is only for 15 seconds, otherwise it'll dump too much food. This is the command for the pumps...
