    Joe's Reef Journey

The first prototype was too small and the closed bottom was not circulating aerated water. The pic below is the revised version with the completely open bottom. The top cap is glued to prevent air leakage and a tiny hole is drilled. It is very quiet. :)

inconsistent results from Hanna 774 phosphate tester.

The results are more consistent with new regents and dedicate cuvettes were used for each tests. It took a lilttle longer to mix the regent on the 3rd and 4th test and that could be the reason why last two tests were incosistent. I will try this again a couple of days later and, this time, I...

    Joe's Reef Journey

9/26/22 Fun lil project: Since my tank is skimmerless and does not have a lot of surface agitation, I built this "tiny HOB oxygen chamber" to provide more oxygen for fish (and maybe a micro amount of help to raise PH). Water inlet and outlet will need to be added by drilling one or two small...

    2" black rock urchin

Purchased online about a month ago but I feel that it is a bit too big for my tank. It is reef safe and only active at night time but it might move small rocks or frags around. Pick up location 95014

inconsistent results from Hanna 774 phosphate tester.

I used the same cuvette only for the first test (in the same position), and for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tests, I prepared a new cuvette with tank water to set C1, and after that, the old cuvette (mixed with regent already) was reused for the result. Next time, I will test 3-4 times only using the...

inconsistent results from Hanna 774 phosphate tester.

I recently watched a youtube video talking about the Hanna 774 tester's inconsistency where he does at least 4-6 tests. I tried the same and also got similar results. Are there also any other instances of this? I am thinking about switching to the Phosphorus PPB version. Pls see the results...

Update: 9/20 Lost tomini tang by ich :( It is so sad, really liked that fish. Toadstool coral spawned overnight and the next day the living room stinks like rotten fish.

Back in hobby after away for 15+ years

Welcome to the club. Believe it or not, you can still purchase SeaClone or Coralife skimmer LOL. My first tank was 5g reef with two 50/50 compact fluorescent bulbs back in 2005 :)

    Joe's Reef Journey

Update Sept 17: Most importantly I would like to say "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to those who have helped me save my corals during the crash and also donated lots of corals." Since my tank is so empty, I acquired a huge toadstool that is much bigger than I thought it would be. The...

    Free Pistol Shimp

Hi I got this pistol shrimp about 6 months ago from liveaquaria but it is sifting sand too much in my son's 10 nano. It would be great if someone can pick it up today or tomorrow as it is waiting for a new owner in a specimen container. Pick up in 95014 Tiger Snapping Shrimp (Sri Lanka)...

Thank you Da_reefer. It has been a very sad week, but on the other hand, starting from scratch is like a new adventure. Thank you so much @jhuynh ! All of your SPS were my favorites.
