What are YOU using to clean your Acrlyic Tank?

I dream about replacing my acrylic tank with a glass one. Meanwhile, I use the Mighty Magnet for routine maintenance, and use the Kent algae scraper to get the more stubborn patches (like the brown stuff that grows in the scratches left by careless magnet cleaning).

    Best Heater?

OK, now that Bryan mentioned that I have a controller, I really need to find a way to program my RKL. I've tried a few times, without success. New Year resolution: finally set up the controller to keep temp stable!

    Best Heater?

In your experience, which heaters are the best? My stealth 250w heater seems to have lost its internal thermostat.

    Hello Everyone & Happy Holidays!

Also, at the frag swap, there is usually a table with free donations of common corals (xenia, GSP, Kenya trees) and macroalgae for new members.

    Home Internet???

We have the $14.95 ATT DSL basic service (introductory rate for 12 months). It works just fine for emailing and checking websites. But it's not great for streaming videos (like Netflix downloads). The cool thing is that ATT makes a single modem/wireless router that just plugs into a phone...

    Aloha from the Waikiki Aquarium!

Wow, Benjamin, what a difficult place for a client project! Beautiful photos & hope you are having a great Christmas in Reno.

    The Ugly Tank

Looks great! I also have a TruVu 150 gallon tank, and find the small access openings at the top annoying. How much of the bracing did you cut away with your saw? Did your tank come with the overflow already installed in the back right of the tank, or did you fabricate the overflow?

How to best deal with receiving a cold cold cold shipped coral.

My red fungia frag is very slowly growing (perhaps it will grow faster now that it is being target-fed RN products), but has shifted color from a nice red to more of a pink. At this rate, it will be ready to frag in 2015.

I think I need to stop lol

Welcome to reef tanks. John makes a very good point about overloading the system prematurely. Are you testing for ammonia and nitrates? It sounds like your 34 gallon system is new (removing everything but the sand) and has fish that would fill a 180 gallon tank. Naso tangs can exceed a foot...

    Cleaning filter socks?

I place them in the washer --hot water--with about 1/8 cup of bleach (no detergent), with an extra rinse cycle, line drying overnight. I have a bunch of filter socks, so I wait until I have about 20 to wash... I only have to go through this process every couple of months.

Before and after 8 day Kitchen redo

Wow, great remodel! Nice to have cabinets that extend to the ceiling. Did you add the window box? We have one, and I love growing chives & rosemary inside the kitchen.

    Green Marine closing soon

I assumed the mithrax crab was captive-bred, but perhaps it came in as a trade, like the lone yellow tang that is in one of the tanks. Would be interested in knowing what you find out about the breeding of emerald crabs. My internet search found a few postings about some hobbyists watching...

    Green Marine closing soon

The website categories do need to be broken down further between fish & invertebrates & separately labeled. I was happy to see healthy, captive-bred emerald crabs, mandarins, and peppermint shrimp in the store's tanks, in addition to the more common captive-raised reef animals.

How to Deal With Evaporation in Room With Aquarium

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I decided to leave the ceiling fan on low, and keep some of the windows cracked to allow the humidity to decrease.

    Green Marine closing soon

In terms of advertising changes... When I was there buying coral on Friday afternoon, I saw a big sign visible from San Pablo Ave. Also, there is a new website: http://www.greenmarinecoral.com/

    99sf's 150-Gallon Upgrade

Richard, I haven't noticed any temperature increase when the sun hits the side of the tank. The tank isn't next to a window, but the light does come through the partial windows at the top of the room as it rises & sets. I recently changed my light fixtures, after finding someone on RC who...

    99sf's 150-Gallon Upgrade

Wow, such great products from Reef Nutrition--got very lucky at yesterday's raffle! I have already spent a lot of time mixing food and target feeding. The corals are sending out huge sweepers now, and the orange goniopora colony has begun re-extending. I had been lazy recently and was adding...

    99sf's 150-Gallon Upgrade

Hint taken... Erin asked for a frag of the green turbinaria, and I need to schedule an appointment with Screebo to cut a couple of frags and add to DBTC.

    99sf's 150-Gallon Upgrade

A sad day. That beautiful maxima clam photographed on 11/5/09 on page 14 of this thread just died. I noticed its mantle had severely retracted a few days ago. Last night, I got home and noticed there was almost no mantle visible, and the shell was gaping. There was also slime coming out of...
