Coral ID - Which coral is this? Update: Montipora spongodes [for now…]

It definitely looks like what we in the club have always called Montipora Spongodes. Whether or not the monti part has been reclassified I couldn’t say, but I’m confident that’s what it is. https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/dbtc-montipora-spongodes.31448/

How does fish feeding translate into nutrients? N and P specifically!

I like the more compact size, but not having the mixing tube gives up on much of the advantage of having a Plank in my opinion

Challenges in removing chloramine in RODI setup

My understanding is, if we focus on chloramine, it will process 3.500 gallons of water at a rate of 0.5 gpm flow, and yields at least 85% reduction in chloramine when the level is 3 ppm Note that if you have 2 of these blocks in a row, it’s more like at least 98% reduction.

Challenges in removing chloramine in RODI setup

No just the 2 of the regular size ones rated for chloramine: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-universal-carbon-block-filter-1-micron.html?queryID=25c0b1cd294843433dd8abc933139acd&objectID=4027&indexName=brs_prod_m2_default_products

Challenges in removing chloramine in RODI setup

Sorry if this was already mentioned but what about just using 2 of the BRS universal chloramine-rated carbon filters before your RO membrane(s)? I’ve been doing that for many years with very long longevity of my membranes. Multiple times longer than the average reefer stays in the hobby. We are...

How does fish feeding translate into nutrients? N and P specifically!

Our frag swap is free to supporting members. And the coral there is swapped for free. Unless you meant time-doing-something-not-with-your-significant-other budget or something. Then I get it.

    Thinking of quitting reefing

It’s a legit question. No one best answer. The most straightforward way is to give everything away or sell it to someone trustworthy. Parting everything out is painful. You can give stuff away here without being a member, but to sell stuff you need to be a supporting member ($30). You won’t get...

    Kessil repair question

Kessil is your best bet but not your cheapest. Fixreef if you want a 3rd party. I don’t know of anyone else local who will match their quality.

A broader discussion about skimmers / Tunze DOC 9430 - best skimmer money can buy? / Impact on phosphates?

NO3 and PO4 are not organics, since organics have carbon in them as well. But in our systems they come from broken down organics, so certainly are related. Also N isn’t the same as NO3 and P isn’t the same as PO4 since they can be in different forms. Note that ICP testing looks at the elements...

A broader discussion about skimmers / Tunze DOC 9430 - best skimmer money can buy? / Impact on phosphates?

I’m not sure I have direct answers to your followup questions. One additional consideration that might help is that a skimmer’s rate of pulling out amphipathic organics depends not only on the skimmer itself and its settings, but also the concentration of the organics in the water. So if you...

A broader discussion about skimmers / Tunze DOC 9430 - best skimmer money can buy? / Impact on phosphates?

Alex @Alexander1312 I think part of the confusion is just precision of term use. So indulge me giving a little background. Skimmers remove dissolved molecules that adhere to the surface of bubbles because they have one side that is attracted to water and one side that is repelled by it. The term...

    Ethical husbandry. A discussion

You are still completely missing the point of why people distinguish their personal opinions from official club positions. Apparently on purpose. Allegedly I guess. I get the distinct impression you are just trying to ruin BAR. You are also personally insulting people for your entertainment on a...

    WYSIWYG SPS Coral Colonies

When we announce the upcoming meetings and invite everyone to attend, we want to be able to Feature it so more people will see it. Because of a quirk of how the site is set up, that means we need to put those announcements in the Events & Annoucements section. When we publish the meeting...

    Ethical husbandry. A discussion

Regarding this one point, you are missing the point of when BOD members say that. They are saying what they think and that it does not represent the official perspective/position of the entire BOD, just their opinion. There is nothing wrong with this at all. We are all people with opinions, we...

Vermetid snail quarantine. How long before they stop spawning?

I don’t have experience with the marine snow method so I don’t have a comment specifically on if that method works. I’d just like to point out that it sounds like people are talking about finely ground solid calcium carbonate in this thread. Not actual marine snow, which contains many other...

    DBTC: Orange or Rainbow Yuma

A tank journal is only required if the DBTC originator says it is as a special rule. It’s not part of the default rules. So it’s not a true statement that it’s “usually required for DBTC corals”. Mostly just the rarer higher end ones.

    Zoa spawning

Just that zoas showing up elsewhere without spawning (asexual reproduction) is very common and zoas successfully spawning (sexual reproduction) in a reef tank is exceptionally rare. Like everyone’s personal experience vs almost no one’s personal experience.

You are already on that chain I started. You just say who you gave them to in BARCode once you do. And if you want you can just post on that thread that you have some available.
