Nice thanks for the link! I'll have to pick one up.

Dangalang's IM Nuvo Fusion 20 Nano

I've noticed a big decline in my vermetid population, but I'm not sure if it is because of the bumblebees, coral snow, or cutting out broadcast feeding (or all of the above :) ). I tried a shotgun approach since I was tired of dealing with them. I suspect reducing their food supply was the...

Dangalang's IM Nuvo Fusion 20 Nano

Interesting! I might have to try this. You just blast their opening with the dental pick? I've been using bumblebee snails and coral snow to control vermetids.

    Ratio of two part consumption?

What's interesting though is that you have an excess Ca demand, whereas the article primarily describes reasons for excess Alkalnity demand. I guess water changes with higher Alk and lower Ca might skew your demand towards Ca? Are you using a high dKH salt mix?

    Ratio of two part consumption?

I found an interesting article written by Randy Holmes-Farley on the issue you’re describing here: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-12/rhf/index.htm

    Ratio of two part consumption?

I use two part and always dose the same quantity of each. I adjust the dosage based on Alk testing. I test Ca far less frequently but it’s never out of range. I’m under the impression that two part solutions are “balanced” so theoretically it should always be 1:1.

    Tang aggression

Corals will be fine for a few days without light. I just did a 3 day blackout (completely sealed from light), and all corals were fine.

What did everyone get from CFM?

Ooof! Good to know. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the Feb swap (gotta go to a baby shower). I'll make the next one though!

What did everyone get from CFM?

I went in with a budget of $100, ended up spending $135. Not bad lol. I picked up: 1.) Bizarro Cyphastrea 2.) Golden Rod Anacropora 3.) CB Maleficent Acro 4.) Yellow Favia 5.) Purple Stylo I regret not spending more time talking with and meeting other BAR members, I was paralyzed by the task...

For a second I was fooled into thinking your houseplant was some kind of exotic macroalgae. Great looking tank!

    Andrew's Red Sea Reefer 250

Interesting! Maybe I'll start experimenting with trace elements to see how it impacts my corals. I may bug you for advice with some of these :) By error bars, I mean precision. If Triton makes 100 measurements of the same water sample, what is the spread (high, low, standard deviation) of each...

    Andrew's Red Sea Reefer 250

Just got my ICP test back from Triton. No major imbalances. Useful information I got from this test: Iodine was measured on the lower end of the target range at 38 ug/l, so I dosed 1.5mL (3000 ppm I solution) to bring it up to 60ug/l. Fluoride was measured a bit low at 0.81 mg/l (vs...

    Andrew's Red Sea Reefer 250

Just finished the blackout and turned the lights back on. Things definitely look better. I probably could have done a better job w/ manual removal before the blackout, but I'm pretty happy with the results. I noticed a lot more skimmate than usual, which I guess is due to the breakdown of dying...

I'll keep an eye on the skimmate. I guess it should start turning red when the cyano dies off? I read that in an ancient reef central post.

FLUVAL EVO 13.5 Budget Build 2025

This is true, but you're also able to do large water changes frequently without much time/effort. It takes me 5 minutes to do a 50% water change in my pico so I do them often. I use water from my RSR250 to remove the uncertainty of precise saltwater mixing.

    Andrew's Red Sea Reefer 250

I turned up the MP-40s a tad, removed as much cyano as I could, and covered the tank for a 3-day blackout. I'm hoping the combination of increased flow, reduced feeding, and 3 days of complete darkness will solve the problem. I turned off all dosers, except kalk to keep pH from dropping too low...

    MD’s 90 Gallon Shallow Reef

Congrats on getting the tank wet!! Your sump/plumbing looks clean. I want to replace my Red Sea valve with a gate valve like you have. What are you planning for the empty chamber after the skimmer? Where are you planning to put your heaters?
