What happens if this fails though? I've personally had no issues with neptunes ATO in over 3 years that I've had it. Well aside from having to change out the pump a couple times.
It depends on the hiding spaces available. Amano shrimp are larger so they will likely stand a better chance. Cherry shrimp reproduce fast, some will likely get eaten. But it's like getting free fish food. Even tetras and rasboras will pick off baby cherry shrimp.
I definitely spent more time on maintenance on my planted tanks then I do with my current reef. Weekly trimmings were a pain in the butt. This is more of a problem with a high light/co2 planted tank with fast growing plants.
