    Favorite step stool or stepladder?

A sturdy 3rd step is important if the top of your tank is at 6'6" So I added a taller one. These are my two, I love the left one for everything except when I need the right one.

What should my next tank be?

Bigger is easier...once it is in place. Think about where you want the tank to be and how big you want it, then wait for that system. Another month or so of patience on the used forum might yield some surprising results in terms of gallons of the system per dollar. There are often steals of...

    High TDS after RODI

7, or something. It depends on your water in a bit and what you want to delete first.

Zoanthus sansibaricus - Which is your favorite?

We use BAR ;) I also am old and crotchety and don't use "insta", but there are lots of great pics on BAR

How does fish feeding translate into nutrients? N and P specifically!

2x a day can be 4x a day, feed more often is my take away. I have gotten phosphates up to .8-.9 with no real isues, and nitrates over 90 but don't do that. I like to keep phosphates around .3 and nitrates around 30. I have a post on my old 168 journal that goes into what I fed then. Keep...

What are you currently using for testing, and do you plan to upgrade? A pole!

If anyone was curious what the right answers are, here is what I do ;) A lot of these I got from BRS's video a few years back and agree with their findings. Nitrate: Nyos Phosphate: Hanna high range Calcium: Trident/Red Sea for manual Alk: Trident/Hanna for manual Mag: Trident/ Salifert or...

questions on (lack of) airflow, cooling fans and other related matters

Air, like all fluids, likes and inlet and an outlet on opposite ends of your box to maximize your flow in the box, and needs something to drive the flow. Cold air is more dense than warm air and easier for the fan blades to grab, so think about an inlet vs an outlet fan, (unless there is some...

    Dark Side of the Lagoon

Given the volume of your tank, I tend to lean towards water changes to stabilize parameters over what I call "root cause analysis" which I do for big systems. Since my quick math says you probably have a 30 gallon water volume, getting phosphate down with 2x 50% water changes a week apart from...

questions on (lack of) airflow, cooling fans and other related matters

Depends on how much ventilation you have and how hard you run your AC. Everything is a thermodynamic system, and the heat has to go somewhere. Get a fan, you need some air circulation. Lots of options out there. On my big system, I have one "Vornado" fan pointed at my sump to create...

Help Needed: Live Rock Bacteria & Nitrate question

Used to relative often, like every 2-3 months. Now I am lazier and just let it be in my new system because it is still too new to care. I don't hate using 1/2 dose of chemiclean to do a water change, but now that I know more about the bacteria, I would say try to avoid that treatment if you...

1 TDS out of my 8 stage rodi

You mean I need to find one of my five year old pens? I'll try. But two inline sensors were consistent with each other and the measurements make sense on line 1 and 2

how do you find your own tank journal

I Google "bay area reefers michael" and it's the top link for me, and I put all my tank journal hyperlinks in my signature.

1 TDS out of my 8 stage rodi

Maybe 300-500 gallons? I don't produce a huge amount with my non regular water change strategies. It has been slightly over a year. Next thought was just replace everything not visually new because it's all pretty cheap. Some of the sellers online say replace everything yearly anyway. What's...

1 TDS out of my 8 stage rodi

The 1 TDS was after a long time of the filter running too. Very consistent, and only started recently when the second resin started getting close to half depleted, which is why I'm thinking of adding a second canister of the middle resin.
