    Reefing and setbacks

Thanks. I had some flow issues where my wav pumps weren't getting recognized so I only had 4 of my 9 wavemakers going for a couple weeks. Cyano took over a lot. I ended up getting my mp60 out and putting that on the tank just in case the wav's went out again when I came back to the bay for...

    Reefing and setbacks

I would consider keeping the tank going with a few softies than you can grow out. Super low maintenance. Feed, skimmer clean, and top off and nothing else is needed. That gives you something to look at and grow, but not worry about coral disease. That is where I am currently at with my big...

Rant : medical cost is crazy

I know we have at least one Dr here in the club. Does a private message on the bar forum count next time? I'll get my wife to send you one next time too!

Rant : medical cost is crazy

The "cost" to the companies who develop is universal. The cost to the patient is much lower in other countries with single payer systems that can negotiate what they want to pay. You are right that the insurance companies are a huge part of the problem and that doesn't exist in other systems...

A classic - torches are melting

I don't like this personally. I like them closer to 20-30, and I run mine closer to 80 at times. Temp swing aren't great, get an Inkbird thermostat and a titanium heater. Alk swings aren't great, sounds like you got a doser. I think when torches melt fast, it is often a bacterial infection.

    9 footer disaster

I was always fine with 30 nitrates and .5 on the phospate. Agree they aren't that high.

    Cilyjr's 470 gallon display

No you aren't ;) Good to know, I saw this with my clams now, the maxima loves to stick to the plug square it came on and the deresa does "walk" or get blown around a little. I can worry less now, thank you.

    What’s Your Favorite Sand?

The Two Little Fishies 2-3mm sand is my favorite. Soft enough for burrowing snails and fish, coarse enough for real flow. It is what I am using in my 2 sand bottomed tanks.

    127g Acrylic build

If it is what I am thinking of, you want the middle length, 24" one. The short one doesn't reach where you want and the long one flexes too much to give you appropriate pressure to clean the hard the scrape stuff. At least for my glass this is true. @derek_SR , can you confirm?

    127g Acrylic build

36" tall is great! You'll love it, and the fish will too.

    Growing copepods

Get a pint of rubble from an old tank. Then feed small particles to your system and problem solved.

corals in tank that you regret

You know there is a like button, right? You don't have to comment "this" every time you agree with something. Whoops, not on reddit. But yeah, this. Eff those polyps. They are why my mom needs to restart her tank and she didn't even put them in intentionally. They are worse than any...

    Free GSP

You likely got the branching gsp instead of the matting one. I think there are about 7 kinds out there.

    ABC Reagents, just A reagent?

Not a bad idea, I will look into this too. So long as you are testing once a day, it should keep the lines wet. And if John is doing it, it works.

    ABC Reagents, just A reagent?

That's funny, because I have the opposite problem. I have an extra mixture to make a gallon of A because I am lower on my B/C reagents. Stock testing schedule. I can send you my mixture if you don't find one local.

    Thinking about switching salt

I dose 6 things in my big tank. 1: Vodka for nitrates 2: LaCl for phosphates 3: Soda ash for alk, with one Balling trace added. 4: Calcium chloride for calcium with the other bottle of Balling trace elements. 5: BRS magnesium mixture 6: Salt free salt from Balling You won't go through the...

    Di resin question.

When you see half the color changed, you get half the contact time with good resin. That is the reason I double up my resin that depletes the fastest, so I am always backed up by a full cartridge of good resin.

    Thinking about switching salt

How big a system is it? There are a number of reefers who dose as a primary method, myself included. I always looked at the root cause of why are you changing the water? Then fix that problem. I would encourage you to do it, but be smart. Go slowly, and have a solution for each problem, and...
