Just a note on water temps in the wild.. I thought it was pretty interesting when I went to Belize how much the water temps varied on the real reefs.. the top of the water was about 84F avg and when I free dove down to 12 feet the temp dropped 5+ deg (maybe as much as 10 in places)... pretty...

Oh yeah, huh.. well, I think my pod bed is mostly in my over-flow compartment... I see lots of them down in there at the bottom of that (left back corner of tank) dancing in the thin layer of silt which has built up over the last year... still and all, I think there may be some in my sump...

yeah - that's a good idea... I need to service my sump pump anyways... it's been a while. :) that's also one interesting way to do a WC... drain and fill the sump. :)

got the BM160 and did some clearing of astrea shells off my sand bed today.. my new salt water is too cold to do a water change with yet, so waiting on that unitil this evening or tomorrow. yay for labor day! whew. anyways.. very happy with this skimmer so far... took about 24 hours before is...

ok - makes sense! mine is typically 8.0 (or within 0.05 of that) when I dump it in.. I don't aerate it much but perhaps while xfering it from the container to the 7gal jugs that does the trick. hrm.

I let my water sit in the mixing container for a week at a time and never had and issue.. with just a powerhead in it, but not a lot of surface movement so I doubt it's getting aerated. The act of pouring the water into the tank aerates it quite a bit. I think you'll be fine. :)

I have some silicone which came with my ER if you want it... but I am guessing that's not the root of the issue.. are the union faces not flat? or is the o-ring jumping out of the groove for it or something? or the lock is applying un-even force when closing?
